I did some searches and found tons of automotive hood vents and louvers (everything from custom to hummer, jeep, etc) prices for most were 20 to 100 dollars. Those u found Mark are pretty cool

allright mark...yes i thought og louvering..it would cost about 600 dollars and would ruin the existing paint..so tack 250.00 on to that to re paint it, plus there are only like 5 shops on the west coast that advertise this process and none of them are any where near here.

as for what i have done..well its done on back on the truck now, idled for about 15 mins in the driveway and reached 187 degrees, test drive at abundent throttle :ack: yeilded a temp of 195

crawlerdan

idle before was 213 degrees, now at 187, that is a differance of 26 degrees, or about 13% at idle
previous running temp on the freeway was 231 degrees and now is 195, differance of 36 degrees, or about 17%...pretty good for less than 20.00 and two hours of time

What kind of hardware did u use to attach? just some bolts from the hardware store? It looks pretty good. I guess functionality wins anyways

Looks good, must have added 50 horsepower!  The wind blows right through you now!!

update= we went to a local uroc course over the weekend and it got up to 203 after wheelen and drivin home, not bad but hotter than i want....so i went to the local wrecking yard and bought the thinnest fan i could find..what i found is a primasry fan off of a 94 subaru legacy (suprise) i know these well.
it is 16x16 and 2 inches thick, not too bad, i screwed it to the bottom of the hood on the ribbing and wired it to a switch in the dash, i can use it as a pusher or a puller depending on witch way i flip the switch(3 posistion switch) but i will use it more to pull air from under the hood and expell it through the vents i added a few weeks ago. it moves a rated 640 cfm of air, which is damn good for a fan of that size if you ask me.

results are= idled in driveway for 20 mins=192 degrees
cooled down and idled with fan on for 20 mins=177 degrees!!!!

so this will definately help with slow moving temp issues!!

cost=5.00 for fan, 1.99 for switch

Ramrod

you should wire it up and try it the other way around and see what happens.  you never know it might be better

toynizzy

i dont care what anyone says,it worked and dont look that bad dan.we did the same thing pretty much to my friends toyota mini stock race car, ours was a real heating/AC vent though lol, function over form, and cheap is good lol
85 xtra cab pretty stock for now but lots of stuff to come!!

I don't know if you guys know this or not, but slow moving heavy equipment have the engine fan blow the heat out of the engine compartment through the radiator. Some even have a switch pitch fan that sucks for a while and then blows for a while. If you are running an electric fan, maybe you could try to run them as pushers from the engine side when you are crawling.

looky at all those switches! its an airplance cockpit

Can it suck and blow at the same time. Now that would be awesome.

4-6 fans from a computer mounted under there may move more air and look alot cleaner.  Lots of junky computers with good fans could be had for cheap.

you need one of these w/ the louver dies

:thumbdown:WHAT I HAVE DONE HAS HAD A MINIMAL EFFECT ON THE PAINT ON the truck, stamping louvers or rolling beads would equal certain paintjob, dont wanna, but if i where starting new i would do that

sure they could!  my case fans move around 100 CFM apeice.  the fan he is using is rated at 640 CFM and I would be surprised if it is moving half that amount with how it is mounted.

might be worth getting an edge joggler from somewhere like 'the eastwood company' then youll get a nice recessed lip to set the loovred panels into   reckon itd look even nicer doin that
