transfer case seal
« on: May 23, 2006, 08:58:55 AM »
I own a 1985 Toyota 4runner. I’m replacing the seal on the transfer case at the rear flange. I pulled the old seal out last week and threw it away. Yesterday I installed the new seal from Toyota, part number 90311-38016. The old seal face was flush with the adjacent shoulder. The new one stops about .100 before being flush. I applied some grease to the face of the seal and then installed the flange and the face of the seal does not appear to contact the flange. Now I realize I should have compared the old seal with the new, but I didn’t. So will I be ok using the new one as described?
