weld all the gears together to make one giant ball of steel..  dont weld to the case or the cross pin..   mig/stick  either is good.. stick.. i use 6011 alot  since its a "dirty" rod and its hard to get the spider gears totally clean

6011 or 7018 (I prefer to use 7018 on DC for just about everything) should work fine.

oh and DONT STOP for any good perriod of time..  i just keep forcing rod or wire into it.. if you stop for a bit  the carrier will pull and warp and then its toast.  so no weld a little bit and stop crap.

The  R&P too?  jk IC

I would prefer stick over wire in this situation only because of being able to get 'in there' easier with stick. 5 P plus (6010 - 6011) is good rod but I'd go 7018 for the strength, you can get it clean enough with brake cleaner.

here is 2 pages of search results from pirate on for you lots of good info

stick, 5 P  personally speaking (this is only because I can't mig worth a sh*t)

I'd use stick.. run over it with 5P, it'll stick to anything... then run over it with some 7018. Besides.. stick's cheaper and will be much easier.

You guys that have used mig, what size wire did you have and how much of a roll did you use?

030 wire  I believe the plate helps retain the center pin without making it brittle, and the plate holds the spiders better than just blobing welds where the spiders meet . Needs to be clean of gear oil for good mig weld.

why would the center pin get brittle?  you arent suposed to weld to it.  and the plate  doesnt really do squat..  you dont just put boogers in the corners    you pound weld into that sucker

i just went and dug this carrier out of the dirt to give you an idea on how  ive been taught to do it.  the guy that taught me has over 100 on the road with no failures.   This one was not done by me but by a friend  while  teaching him  how to do it.

yeah i know it looks  like garbage  but   the carrier wasnt cleaned  and it was partially broken.. so it was just a test piece  but the idea stands there..

Basicly you  dont want to see teeth.  you  start by filling the valley inbetween  2 gears  till its  basicly  the same heigth from top of the gear to the other top of the gear..    and continue to weld over all the teeth..  do this on every corner and ever gear.

Do NOT weld to the case
DO NOT weld to the pin
JUST WELD THE GEARS.

Plus i think welding that plate in adds way to much heat  right at the splines.. where as  just welding the teeth and pointed out keeps the heat  more centerd to the outside of the gear.  which means your axles will slide in easier.
