Hello everyone,

I am trying to get an opinion I have in mind.. As you can tell from the subject, I am thinking about putting an LT1 from an old Caprice Cop Car in my 88 4Runner, which currently has a V6 and 5 Speed. I am going to start a SAS pretty soon... What my concern is will the V6 rearend and a Toyota front end hold up to that power? What about FJ60 axles?

I am also thinking about the tranny and transfer case. Will these components hold up to an LT1? What about the gearbox and a geared t-case, with an adapter from MC?

An other possibility could be a NV4500 with a t-case but I'm not sure which one to use..

I know there are a lot of questions here, but I'm mostly trying to determine just how strong toyota components are.

I'm planning on running 35s or 37s on the truck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

MIKE

Depends on how hard you are on the skinny, how much money you wanna drop into those Toyota axles to make them hold up to the HP. Somethings always gonna break...

Personally i'd just go D60/14 bolt and save yourself the hassle.. but it depends on what your budget is.

'60 axles aren't too terribly much stronger, the birfields are the same as a mini(30 spliners will fix that, at least if they make them with '60 length inners).  the ring gear is bigger but supposedly the pinion shaft is a weak link.

i could see the tcase holding up..  thats about it..

i think problems could arise everywhere but your transfercase (as others said). but to put an engine like that in a rig would be pretty sweet, LT1's are known to have a steady building powerband, rather then progressive, so with some nice low gearing and that engine i bet you could grab some serrrriousss traction depending what your running for meats.

i would say if you can afford it it would be worth the money

if you go ahead with this, i would love to hear how it worked out.
'99 SR5/TRD Tacoma w/5vzfe. SAS'd with 64" diamond axle (w/ long superset & ARB). about 5" of lift, 305/75 x16 BFG KM1's. Soon to come: 1.5" more lift (6.5"), 35 to 37" tire, undecided at this point., 63" F/F diamond rear, Marlin 4.7 tacobox.

old school toy

I have a Lt1 350 in mine.  I am running a dana 60 in rear and in the front stock toy with lockrite.  Haven't broken the front axle yet but I am planning to buy the long 30.  Running stock transfercase no problem

Hey Glenn,

Are you running a gearbox or automatic? Also, you have any problems with the toy rearend to swap it out?

Thanks guys for your comments, keep it coming!
