my 8"is leaking hypoid.

its the rear passenger side. and the leaking is coming from inside the break drum.

my question is what is that seal called and does local auto part store carry it? i want to make sure before i tear out my axle..

and a lil advice would help.. thanks

its called the outer  axle seal,  passenger side,  the inner seal is just a piece of rubber that slips over the shaft,  the outer seal  is what really keeps it from leaking,  if that seal is bad,  most likely the wheel bearing also

and it has to be pressed on,  about 50 for the bearing, 5 for the seal  and 20-30  for pressing the bearing on

Napa  would be you best bet

when i did the gears, i knotice this seal to have a tiny tear.. so it might just be leaking from that? u really think my bearings have to be replaced also?

the seal slips over this and then get put into the axle right?

the rubber seal does,  the other one is hammered into the end of the axle tube,  thats the one you really worry about

Goat,

This happen to me once.  My bearing litrally fragmented, taking out the seals with it.  I heard a little noise and was "WTF"? ???  Got home looked around and the side of my truck and the passenger side looked like I had been out Mudding, but it was 90w oil instead.   It filled up my brake drum and centrifugal force took care of the rest.  :haha:

I replaced all the seals, bearing's, and Brake parts (since the pads were soaked in oil) on the rear end and no problems three years later.   Easy fix on the yota scale. :yesnod:
