Hey guys

Hoping that my gf never reads this forum  I have been searching and searching for a nice place to stay during the 3rd week of July, anywhere on the California coast line. Preferably somewhere between Half Moon Bay and Newport Beach, but I would love to keep it North of Santa Monica if possible.

He's the deal, as some of you know, my Girlfriend of 2.5 years was pretty much forced to move back home to Japan where she is living by herself in Tokyo working two jobs to raise money to return back to America to finish her college dreams. She already has an AS degree in Biology and she wants to get her BS as soon as she can, but it is going to be at least two more years before she can save enough money to return here and support herself through college.

This is off topic :offtopic: But just for some more info :working: I've found that many people don't realize that even at a Junior college level, which units are apprx. $18 per unit for a US Citizen, International Students have to pay above $200 for that same unit. So for a semester of 16 units that cost me just shy of $300, my Girlfriend is paying well over $3000 for the same amount of units. On top of that, they are required by the college to carry Full medical coverage that they get through the college at $120 or so a month, plus they have to pay for either an Apartment bill or a Host Family bill, which of course, someone who lives in the same town as their college, like me, can just stay at home for free with his/her family.
So when you put it all together, it cost me about $500 per semester (including books) when I was going to our Junior college, but it would cost my Girlfriend almost $4000 per semester (yes, 8 times more expensive), even we were taking many of the same classes. It is just ridiculous. And that's not even talking about going to a State College or University, which is even more bucks for International Students $$

Anyways, getting back to the point, in brief, my Girlfriend had to move back home last summer because of family finical reasons, and she is working by herself to one day return and finish her degree.

Now, If you followed the BigMike's Big Japanese Vacation thread, then you will know that I was able to visit Misato over my winter break. But the next time I will be able to see her again won't be until my next winter break, one year later.

Fortunately however, She has been able to get some time off from her jobs to come out this July to visit me for one week!!!!!!!    :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

So of course I am going to make sure to spend one HELL of a good time with her. I have even been thinking about buying her an expensive round metallic object to solidify my future plans with her :eyebrow: if you know what I'm talking about :eyebrow:

So here's my Request:
At this time, the plan is to pick her up from the LAX airport in Los Angeles on July 15th. It is not official yet as she has not purchased the plane tickets yet, but she is pretty sure that she can get July 15-July 23 off.

Now both of us have a HUGE PASSION for the Beach and I would like to take her on a road trip up PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and I would like to find a place to stay for one or two nights that is Beach Front preferred or at least a non-obstructed view of the Ocean, like on a hill-side, if possible. :crossed: I want to be able to open the window and smell nothing but fresh pacific ocean.

And a regular Hotel or Motel ain't gonna cut it. I want to go all out and rent some sort of private cabin or house for one or two nights that fits the above description. We don't need any accomidations really, just a place to stay. We don't need a TV or a phone or anything like that.

--- I have a friend who took his wife to a cabin in Carmel, but he said that they rented the cabin from a "close friend of the family" so I am pretty much out of luck there.
--- Now I also have another friend, who ironically I met through Myspace.com :rofl2: who has a vacation home near Pebble Beach (same area) but she is not sure if it will be rented out that week or not.

So I thought it would be a good shot to throw this up on the forum and see what happens. I am sure there are some realtors on here who must have some friends who have some kind of rentals, or at least know of a cool website that has some good rates on rentals, I dont know.... Just brain storming basically.....

Now I know this is not gonna be cheap, so I am preparing for it now already. I've seen rentals for $200/night and I've seen rentals for $1000/night. That's why I think I can only afford to do it for one or two nights.

As Marlin's son, If anyone has been with Marlin or myself, you will know that we maintain a ordered and clean lifestyle, my work bench is always cleared and my tools are cleaned at the end of each day, and I have been blessed with two great parents who taught my sister and I really good manners and how to take care of things. Misato is no exception to this and we will be most grateful for anyplace we can stay at, rental or non-rental.

She has no idea about this and other plans that I have and it's gonna stay that way. I will just tell her that I "had to settle for a motel" and she would not even care. She is the kind of person, like me, who would rather save money on a place to stay and enjoy the vacation instead of a good nights rest. But I am going to treat her like Royalty (as far as I'm concerned ) so I really want to get a private place for the two of us to give her a taste of what life can be like when we get married (A Home at the beach with Misato is definitely a goal of mine and probably the #1 reason why I am still in college now).

Well that's a lot of garbage and "typing out loud" that could have been avoided, but I want the tenant to fully understand my story and what my plans are here.

Thanks for reading and let me know if you know of someone I can contact, or if you have a place yourself :crossed:

Regards,
BigMike

Just kidding mike, I know how you feel.  We've got a family friend that basically rents out homes for people when they are not there, I'll check with her and see if she knows of anything.  In the meantime, contact some realtors in the area.  My family and I just stayed in Tahoe a few weeks ago in a cabin, apprently some realty comapanies do a property managment thing, where people with vacation homes can have the realty company rent the home out while they are gone.  Apparently this is quite common :dunno:

Have you looked at B&Bs?  You might find something in the area for a decent price  They usually are kinda cutsey, a little cheesy I guess, but perfect for a 1-2 night stay somewhere

Hope some of this helps

Been to Morro Bay many times. Not much to do, but it would be a great quiet place to stay. Thanks for the link, I will check it out

Mike,
The central coast people might say I am wrong on this one (I was stationed at Vandenberg for a year), but the fog north of Santa Barbara in July makes the beach a little chilly. I have stayed in some nice B&Bs in the downtown Santa Barbara area that are close to the beach. Laguna Beach also has some nice places if you are willing to venture a little further south. The problem with finding a house, is most places rent for the entire week. AAA has a great B&B book that I have used for the 2 to 3 day beach trip with my wife. :twocents:

yeah, I am finding that most places are for at least a week.. A few are per night stays, but I think if I called the owner this far in advance that maybe I could arrange something :dunno:

Hey Mike,
I spent some time this weekend in Laguna Beach and visited this resort that might fit your bill. If you want to "go all out" on something nice on the water, you won't go wrong here. ;)
