ONE OF MY WIRES GOING TO MY ALT STAYS HOT EVEN WHEN THE SWITCH IS OFF. THIS PROBLEM OCCURED EVEN BEFORE I DONE THE MOTOR SWAP, OVER NIGHT THE BATTERY IS DEAD.

:yipes:oh  thats not good :ack:,is this on the 89 or the 85 with the 4.3,    what alt do you have,chevy/delco.   i think whitetrash has a delco on his truck ,  not knowing,  i would start by tracing the wire back, but it kinda sounds like a short in the alt itself :driving:

bad diode in alt most likely.  unplug the alt. over night and see if its dead in the moring. if not change the alt.........

of course ive got a gm alt.... im running a 350!  but yes Iv done alt swaps on those before. much cheaper than yota and last longer.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

just paid atention to your origional post you did a 4.3 swap.  just for referance the wiring on my 84 (origionally carbed) truck are yellow for alt turn on.  black & red coil hot.  and black & white for starter solinoid.(sp) if you are running the typical old style alt you will need to hook the red wire off of the alt plug to the main charging lug and the white wire to the origional yellow wire.  if you hook the white to the main power it will kill your bat. big time. because it keeps your alt. energized.  depending on what you pulled the the alt plug of off the colors may be different.  so to make it easier go to napa and get a VRC148. that is the correct color coded plug.  good luck!

just a thought if you are running a toy alt junk it and use the gm alt.  part # 213-4011 from napa.  65 amp. I sell them for abou $45 with alt. plug.

The truck I am puzzled with is a 85 .This truck was a 22ER EFI. I DROPED A   BUILT 4.3 IN AFTER THE 4 CYL DIED . I am using a GM alt but my truck woud kill the battery overnight unless I unplug the alt. I had the same problem wity the 22RE alt before the motor swop . I was wondering if anyone knew of a relay or something that might be in line on the wiring before the alt . The alt  I am using is for a 93 s10 . I glad uall give me some input to the alt collors to connect mine were right but i was starting to wonder.

if the alt is hot on the small wires with the key off, then you need to do some rewiring to the truck. with the keyy off the small wires sould not be hot.

Alt plug is from a 93 S-10.  It has a pink wire w/ black stripe and a brown wire.  Pink wire w/ black stripe is connected ot the white wire in plug.  Brown wire is connected to yellow wire. Red wire in plug not used.  White wire is staying on constant.  YIKES... even if it's not pugged up.  The only wire that should stay on constant is the large 10 gauge that connects to lug on back of alt.
