I found the paperwork that came with the rebuild kit. I took the top part off the carb yesterday and checked the float and it is dead on the money. I have no Idea what is wrong with it.It is almost like it is vaporlocking but it will do it even with the gas cap off. Anyone have any Ideas?  :help:

A friend of mine and I rebuilt the carb on my 85 a while back and It has problems. It will start fine and Idle fine I can drive it around the yard but as soon as I pull out on the HWY it starts acting stupid like it is outta gas. (Yes I've replaced the filter)

It would only run as long as you poured gas in it B-4 the rebuild.

have you had it apart again since you did it the first time. does it run out of steam on acceleration and missfire or does it buck and carry on like a missfire all the time. also does it ever backfire through the carb?

when I pull out on the hwy I can nail it and leave two black marks about 50 ft and shift to 2nd gear and nail it again then as soon as I put it in 3rd gear and nail it again it starts to sputter like it is outta gas.

thats about the time the secondary opens up. is the secondeary plate free? the way to check the secondary without driving the truck, is take a rag and restrict the primary while revving the engine. the secondary will open and the engine still run. restricting the primary is to keep the engine from over speeding. hold the engine about 2500-3000 cup the rag over the primary and increase the rpm. if the secondary is working it will continue to run. caution!!! don't do this very long. you should be able to tell faily quickly

Thankx tried what U said and the secondary works.

this is a pic I found on e-bay of an 85 carb I assume the valve you are referring to is the one on the front with the black and white wires goin' 2 it.I have checked it a while back and it checked out.
