Smog/Header Issue
« on: Nov 18, 2003, 10:40:59 AM »
Just wondering how everyone else dealt with this problem.  I have a smog legal header from LC with the carb# and all legal like.   I was told I still have to have the pre- heater hose attached to my air cleaner to pass.  I saw the contraption that downey sells to attach it to a header and I made my own.   I am just curious what anybody else knows about this, been told, ideas, I am hoping that he will accept it.  Thursday is dooms day at the local test only shop.

Well that don't make much sense if the header is carb legal. Can u still attach your heat shield around the header?

Air cleaner pre-heater is just that, heat incomming air for increased 'efficiency'.  Smog man will accept just about any attempt at having one.  Only issue with a header is that end of tube attached to header tubing should be smaller (restricted) so as to actually collect heat and not be just an air tube.  Should be attached in such a way so that it looks 'tee-d' to the header tube.

I notched a half moon shape in the tube attaching to the header so it sits flush on there and a hose clamp holds it tight.  If it were painted it almost could pass for being made that way.    :_oops:   I think I did a pretty good job if I do say so myself for using Aircraft Shears and a file.   lol   Also someone asked if I could attach a the heat shield and that is a negative that is my whole problem.  I could weld on a bracket but it would ruin my ceramic coating.  I'm gonna give this a try

i just hack sawed a piece of cyclone fench post off and tin snipped two tabs and bent them out then hose clamped it on the header and clamped the tube onto that.
