1991 Toyota pops out of first gear
« on: Mar 27, 2006, 06:39:43 PM »
Hello All,
I have a 1991 Toyota P/U with a V6 engine and I believe a R150F 5-speed manual transmission. The transmission pops out of first gear if any torque is put on it. If I take off in second gear it drives like a charm. The green ring at the bottom of the shifter disintegrated and i replaced it with a stock one from the dealer ( start the booing and hissing here) I just had the engine rebuilt about 15k ago and just added a new baby to the household. Here in sacramento they are asking a grand+ for a rebuild or rebuilt. I have rebuilt my harley motor and am very mechanically inclined but, i have NO transmission rebuild experience. Is this transmission repairable with parts and a kit without taking it to a shop? I love this little truck and am loathe to let go of it. I have read the forums around this issue and the socket or main bearing seem to be the culprit, I just need a few opinions on how to tackle this without selling a kidney to have marlin rebuild it :)

Thanks  :usa:

ok, how about a location for a good rebuild manual?

Could it be as simple as the Heavy Duty Bearing Cover Plate that Marlin Crawler offers as a replacement? I wouldn't mind replacing this and installing the heavy duty shifter seat if there is a good chance it will fix it.
