Newbee converting 85 4Runner to the 3RZ
« on: Mar 26, 2006, 11:54:42 AM »
:driving: So we have read the articles on this conversion and are hoping to complete it by mid-summer, for starters I understand the T100 2 WD engine would be the easiest because of the Bell Housing and oil pan/tube being already there.  What year do the experts on this conversion recommend for the engine.  We are in the planning stages of this project so all feedback is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Definately the easiest and most practical 3RZ to use in a conversion is the T100 2WD 5spd one. Not only is it a 5spd and you will have the correct flywheel and clutch, but its also the most basic in terms of smog related equipment that the computer needs in order to run correctly.

My 3RZ came out of a 1995 2WD 5spd T100. Marlin's 3RZ also came out of a T100, but it was a 2WD Automatic. He bought a 5spd computer that only required the relocation of a couple pins at the ECU plugs to run.

The years you are looking for are all T100 4cylinder models from 1995-1997.

My engine had 140k, Marlin's had 80k, both of our run like they've got 5k.

Not only is it a 5spd and you will have the correct flywheel and clutch,
Does that mean you keep the tranny and t-case thats connected to your 22R/22RE?  Or do you just use the clutch and flywheel??? :headscratch:

I am in the middle of a swap now I am using the 3RZ and W56 in cruiser frame.  I just pulled my engine and all the stuff I need from the donor taco.  I have the FSM coming in this week and I am about to dig into the harnesses and try to eliminate the circuts I do not need for the cruiser.

BigMike seems to be the man on the 3RZ swaps.  I have read and re-read his swap posts before I decided to go this way I was originally going with a LT1 and 700R4, but I am shooting for real light weight (or as light as I can get that heavy pig)
1999 CTD 2500 Sport TST/MBRP/AFE/K&N and Quadzilla 315's yada-yada-yada
1985 Four runner 5in lift 35's lockers etc.
1973 FJ buggy project INWK 3RZ SM420 Mini Axles and Aluminum tub/cowl building to be light weight

The W59 bell housing and Clutch slave cylinder are needed for the swap if I am not mistaken.
