im looking at buying a 73 toyota motorhome. it has an 18r and a 4speed. i dont care about that at all right now. it runs and drives as is but haven't confirmed this. the price is very right. so are people famialiar with these frames? are they still boxed? are they capable of doing an sas swap. that is the ultimate goal. i plan to run my 83 running gear(22r, l52,topshift). this would be for fishing trips, going dirtbiking, all that fun stuff. so if anyone has any info please let me know. i will most likely be owning one of these bad beasts

I had a 74 hilux and bought a 72 for a donor engine, and both were boxed frames.  I was actually surprised by how beefy it was in spots.  And DAMN YOU FOR STEALING MY IDEA!!!.  Mine was gonna be for pretty much the same thing too, hunting, fishing, camping and the like.  Nothing extravagent, maybe 31s and a limited slip or something.
RIP KYOTA

yep thats all mine is going to be for, well maybe even drive it daily :eyebrow: . but i was thinking in the realm of 31's or 32's and yes a limited slip for the rear would be tits up. here are the pics of the one im looking at. only asking $450 to.....so im thining $350

o yeah and thats a 18r! :disturbed:

thanks guy. if its still there when i get home next weekend its mine. im curious if anyone know anything about the 18r....there like the step brother the r series doesn't talk about. i wanna know if i can bolt up a l52 behind her? it would be kinda cool to run that dog for awhile. port and polish the head and ill degree a cam for it. that would be pretty sweet.

another thing my buddy brought up to me tonight. is the interior in this thing full of aspestes(sp) ya'll think? that scares me and i already plan to wear a resperator for the interior teardown .

i doubt it on the asbestos,  but the 18R  can be bolted to a l52   or  you can bolt a 22R  to the tranny thats in it,  probably a deeper 1st gear anyway

Dude, that wold be sweet   never seen one built before.

Nix on the asbestos I think, you should be clear.  You should still wear a respirator though, 303 years of dust, dirt, grime, smokers residue... its not gonna be fun breathing in there
