ok I remember seeing it somewhere, bookmarked it on the old computer but of course Ican't find it now  :shake_head: . Someone used to make a "kit" (modified hinges) so that you could just remove the doors for trail duty. Could someone just remind me of where this is? Tube doors are ok, but like the idea of keeping the doors for DD.

thanks,

I remember seeing that too. can't remember where though.  I think the idea was to use some removable hinge pins with cotters? :dunno:

You could build a hinge like jeep hard doors, pins or tubes on the ouside of the cowl that correspond to ones on the door. Door drops onto it and latches like normal.

I run w/o doors alot.  takes me less than 5 minutes now to take off or put on both doors. :dunno: Still seems like a fun idea though.

it was a modified door hinge so that you could simply lift and remove the dorr and easily replace. Not a company but a guy who I seem to remember was in Arizona somewhere.....
dirtoyboy- hard to tel lfrom the pict but.... how much body do you have left on your rig now? Last time I removed my doors it was difficut without the fenders removed... hmm but that was a few years ago..

Its not hard to do.  Cut the hinge pin that is in the hinge, and replace it with a pin of the same diameter that has a hole on one end for a cotter pin.

Or you can just get a bolt to drop in there and put a nut on the end.

I saw one that they cut slots in the plates so you don't take out the bolts you just loosen them and slide it up and off.  OO   to  CC

Still have fenders and doors, sometimes.  A ratcheting box wrench makes it a snap to get it done. It's actually easier for me to do by myself.  Seems like with another person holding the door up it makes it hard to line up the bolt holes.  I roll the window down on the door and it rests right on my shoulder at the perfect height.  :dunno: God I love no doors (redneck A/C) hehehe

I put 1 bolt in each hinge and the top of the bottom hinge is cut out so I just......

loosen bottom bolt 5 turns
remove top bolt
pick up door

repeat for other side.  less than five minutes
I'm going yota JUST so I can buy from Marlin more.

i run a set of half doors when i wheel n i just cut the pins and bought small hitch pins w/ i got from NAPA for $5/pair......its really not hard at all to change em and theyve been on for well over a year an the door doesnt sag or hard to open/close...i cant remember the part # but its  Balkamp part n it starts w. 715-????......if ya go to a NAPA theyll find em just pop off ure hinges n have em match it up.....just dont take out the bushings in the hinge or they WILL sag n flop around.....i took the bushings out of my half doors just to make it lightning fast to change em..it takes some shimmy'in to get the pins through the bushings but if theyre clean a shot of wd-40 does wonders.......just my $.02......

Having power windows sucks sometimes.  I guess I will eventually get some tube doors and just keep them on for the summer with the wiring tucked up out of the way so I could just put the doors back on when it gets cold.

You may be thinking about Tankota (Steve), he used to make a quick diconnect hinge, at this time he is no-longer making them as far as I know. Here's his webpage and bb:

WT and a few others have done this, and said the removable pin idea works, but the pin gets sloppy.  the (supposed) hot ticket is to slot the hinges. upper like a U and lower like a C IIRC.  It's on the $300 thread somewhere, think.  Or search for it, I brought it up a while ago.

Stinky

it wont get sloppy....as long as u dont pound the bushing out of the hinge ure golden....it will wear just as a stock hinge pin.....do stock toy hinges get sloppy??....not if u dont open n close ure door a billion times....so if the removable pin is the exact same size....it wont be sloppy.....trust me i searched this shart before i screwed with mine

It became a pita for him since nobody would send in thier cores once he sent the modified hinges, so he kept having to find replacments. He finally just gave up.

Does anyone have a picture of this? I'm having a hard time visualizing this and I would love to have a easy way to pull off the doors. ;)
