hey if you want a light 350 the Buick 350 only weighs  450lbs give or take
or you could just go with smaller v8s..Buick v8 215 is all aluminum..i imagine a ford 302 is smaller and also weighs around 450

u can also have good lowend torque with just a v6...the 4.3 Chevy v6 is more popular...due to it being gms coperate engine
but the Buick v6s are comparable in performance and also have a few advantages...being lighter weight, distributor upfront and physical smaller.
225(3.7) good lowend but hard to fuel inject, not sure eon weight...I'm guessing around 345lbs?
231(3.8) and 252(4.1) are both like 375lbs
231 doesn't have great lowend with the cast iron 2v intake but to gain some u can find a 4.1 aluminum 4v intake...and of cource the usual rv cam and headers...both can also be fuel injected via Chevy 4.3 ecm
u can get around 275 lbs of tq from the 3.8 I'd imagine a Lil closer to 300 with the 4.1 engine with around 175 180 hp

i ran 33 on stock axles for over 3 yrs, never broke one. the only reason i am swaping to toys is that i am going to be running 37s. If you run 33's you will have to learn to be a lot more gentle on the throttle until you have to hommer on it.

me too and one day boooom there went both rear shafts ..

Again defeating the purpose of getting the bic-lighter of 4x4's in the 1st place, if your gonna start swapping out everything that is Suzuki for Toyota parts, why not just buy a Toyota in the 1st place.
because even with toy axles, a sami is still half the weight of a toy mini truck, the top comes off, andthe doors look better when off, for very little you can fold down the windshield, easyier to put a cage in ... i could go on

Of course you should take note that I have once again jumped into a Sammi, and will not eat my words on my feelings about them. I did get mine with all the parts needed to make it a decent wheeler but it still would cost more to make it a competent crawler than my Toyota's. I could imagine how much it cost for all the parts I got for it, there is a whole lot more stuff required to get a Sammi to the level of a Toy not including needing stronger axles. Stupid little thing doen't even have power steering. Just as an example all my 4Runner required to make it go anywhere I wanted was 4 inches of lift, 4.88's, lockers and 33's that was it. Since it was an auto I didn't even need crawler  gears. I did beef up the steering components but it was not necessary.

dude,  that's a funny post and all but that site is a joke.  samurai's are very capable.  I've had 3 and am now a yota guy b/c it's cheaper to build the yota.  I'm sure you already knew that though.

but I love some samurai's
I'm going yota JUST so I can buy from Marlin more.

unless you like flipping end over end going down hills  i wouldnt even think about putting a 350 in a zuk,  if you have a zuk and want awesome power, get a toyota 4AGE from a corolla

What trans could you use? I have a 20 valve 4age and would love to put it in a light weight 4x4.

Oregon Crawler

I've seen a 350ci chain saw, so 350 can fit in a sammy, but I'm going to build a sammy down the road, and for my idea stretch the rear axle back till the (37' that I wanna run) so it sticks out the back by a inch or two and stretch the front clip just between the fender and the door about 4-6" then move the front axle forward about 8-10" w/ toy axles, 7m-GE, and It should be long enough wheel base for almost any hill climb.

PS If you take a stock jeep to a stock toyota up the same hill a jeep will go further. WHY when you sit in it you can almost reach out the door and touch the rear tire,Being that every thing sits back further being a weight difference, what built like a jeep a sammy, so throw your toy :pokinit: in a sammy bam better that a jeep and a toyota ahaha

Whatever happen with this Project?

I bought a Sammy because of its light weight, I figured I'd flop someday & I would'nt need to many people to help me up-rite it.  ;)
& they're fairly cheap to buy & Build.

Until you get to the point I'm at & start adding axles & drive trains & linked suspensions etc etc...
Its becomming more of a buggy & less of a Sammy.  ::)

But as to the V8 in a Sammy, I've seen them done before, But I'd recommend a FORD.
Because the Dist. is up front & so you wont have to deal with as much fire wall mods to allow it to clear.

use the tranny that came behind the 4age,  sammies have divorced  tcases

I'm sure I pimp pics of my rig too often, but with yota axles and a wheelbase stretch as mentioned which can be done simply by using YJ leaf springs, samis overcome nearly all the cons except for being a little short, but that simply means adjusting ones driving style accordingly

in this last pic on 31's, I ran a couple trails with friends in death valley. almost every other vehicle was on 35-37's and I didn't have one problem following in fact I squeezed up a few routes that others couldn't.

V8 is a waste of time IMO sammis are about gearing them down and fwif, they are certainly not the "cheap option" they used to be... but still better than a jeep
