1jz, or 1kz?

...might need to check the supracharged site for this one, but I'm pretty sure the 1jz bell matches up to either the w-56 or the R-151, but I'm pretty sure it's the R.

but that means you could match an R tranny to the TWO JZ motor.. hmmm...

For strength, it really depends on how you like to use the power.  For a ballpark, I'd say less than 250hp for the W-56, and less than 350hp for the R-151.

WHERE DO I LOOK TO FIND WHICH TRANNY IT IS?   THE PLAN IS TO HAVE A JDM 1JZGTTE KEEP IT MOSTLY STOCK WHICH MEANS ABOUT 220 HP. BUT GOBBS OF TORQUE. THW 2JZ HAS A DIFFERENT BELLHOUSING THAN THE 1JZ

The block side of each bellhousing should be the same, but the tranny side is different.  The 1J bell was used as a crossover from the M series motor, so some of the older trans will fit.

If you want to run the 1/2 J series block with a manual transmission, here's the options from weakest to strongest:

N/A 2JZ bell will accept 4cyl NA truck transmissions, ie W-56 and maybe W-59?.

The 1J bell will accept R series transmissions (R150/R151), but the input is a little short, so you have to swap out the input shaft with a 2wd (R154?) or customize the bell.

Finally, you could use the 6 spd 2jz tranny and go divorced t-case.

You might have some luck over on http://www.supracharged.com.  Check out their forum.  Be forewarned, however, they'll try to steer you away from the 1J to the 2J or the 7M, which is not necessarily a bad thing.
