New from clovis ca, 1st toyota build
« on: Mar 02, 2006, 09:45:34 PM »
Hi everyone, my name is Dan and I live in Clovis CA. I've done a lot of wheeling in central CA but I just decided to build a toyota. One thing I have to get used to is: I don't have to build stuff to not break on a 6000#+ truck with gobs of hp. I had a '80 hilux years ago that I put a odd fire buick and auto trans in with no other mods, it was a great truck but I couldnt keep it cool.
:headscratch: My big question is, Why isn't there more buildups of pre-smog (California) trucks? We always searched for pre-smog eb's so you could put any motor you want with any modification. I have yet to see a '75 or earlier truck on the list. I bought a "85 truck and took out the running gear. I pick up a '75 hilux this weekend that I bought from a tow company. I'm putting it in the garage and start the build asap. I've been thinking of a chevy 4.3 but I'm just going to wait and see what comes along. The '75 has a 20R so for now I might just put that head on my 22r from the "85 so I can use it this summer. Meanwhile I'll be on the forum looking for answers to all the toyota questions I'm going to have. :help:

:welcome: Just take the cab off the 75 and put it on a newer frame and register it as a 75. :shhh:

But thats not the hard way to do it???????

The '85 has DMV issues, read $$$$$$ in back fees :yikes: and I don't want to have a problem later after it has $$ :turtle: $$ invested if I had a accident or it was stolen.
