Greetings. I'm new here but have been around other boards (Pirate, 4x4 WIre, Colorado4x4, etc.) for quite a while.  I run an '84 Xtra Cab with a supercharged 283 V8, SM420, Marlin dual cases, and much more to list.

OK!  8) Send me an e-mail about your conversion. [email protected]. I have a '85 Xtra Cab and below my deck (at home) is a 1968 283 v8 and sm420 tranny out of a Chevy 3/4 ton truck. I know, the 307 and sm465 came out in 1968 but this assembly line apparently used up the old inventory first.

My 1st impression is this engine is too much weight and power for a Toyota, but a 4.3L v6 isn't much lighter in either of those categories either. I was thinking the 2.8L (or 3.1L) Chevy 60 degree v6 would be more practical.

Lay some knowledge and experience on me.
