Is it bad if a truck sits too long?
« on: Feb 26, 2006, 01:42:26 PM »
 I'm looking at a '96 Tacoma that has been sitting for over 2 years.  It has not been run at all.  Can any damage occur from it sitting for so long.  Is there anything special one would need to do before starting it (besides the obvious, necessary  fluid changes) ?

yeah change the oil, and maybe put some fresh oil in all the cylinders and crank it with the fuel and ignition dissabled with the spark plugs out. cause there is probably no oil left on the cylinder walls. make sure coolant is good too.

it may not be a bad idea to drain the gas tank and put new gas in it and disconect the fuel line at the motor and let the pump run a little to flush the system and change the fuel filter

mmmm spray some carb cleaner in the plenum  before ya start it so it will help clean out whatever fuel didnt drain back down to the tank..  just to clear out any old fuel that could have gummed up in there

Put some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinder's, change your oil and add the rest of the Marvel Mystery Oil in with the oil change and fire that sucker up.

Injectors can be gummed up from sitting, but that's really hit and miss.  Worst thing you can do is take a chance!  One of my motorcycles has been sitting for 3 or 4 years without running, and I'm kinda skeered the injectors are gonna be gummy, but I won't know till I get done and hit the key.
