tacoma rear housing

  Will a 4cyl third member work a tacoma rear housing.I all ready have 529s in my 4cyl housing .getting ready to start a new build on a 94 xtra cab. Wanted to use taco rear housing with my third for a little more width.If anyone knows let me know.

i would think yes it would fit.. cuz u can take the locking thirds out of it and put it in the onlder style housings... and why taco housing? just get the ifs style axle... i never ran a taco one but i here there weak, or not nearly as strong as the other axles..

I allready have a ifs rear ,and i have trouble with the tire rubbing the frame when it travels up.I thought the extra 2 inches or so would help out with the rubbing. I could also buy wheels but the taco axle is free.

i can get you some stuff  from a 94 v6 truck if you need anything let me know

the truck was under water a few days  so most stuff is junk but i think im going to make a deal for the hole truck

it has a 3 inch lift and a body lift i think

The only reason I see that it wouldn't work is if the taco housing was designed for a TRD e-locker otherwise I believe it will go in just fine

a regular 4cyl diff will not fit in a tacoma non trd elocker housing is waht i have been told... i dont think it will fit in a regualr trd housing as well with a elocker...just the elocker in the 4cy axle... i maybe wrong though

I am not for sure but i think it is out of a 4cyl taco,open carier . I guess i will just take it apart and see if i can put a 4cyl third in it.

I would guess that the non-trd, tacoma housing is an 8.4 inch ring gear, so the older style third will definitely not fit.  Only the trd(elocker) rear end uses the old 8.0 inch ring, so you could have a chance of getting your third to fit into a trd housing.  However, the bolt pattern for the trd third has one stud in a different location to make room for the locker's armature, so if it did work, you'd have to cobble it together in an undesireable manner: leaving a nut off, or adding material to sink a new stud.

So my advice would be, if you have lots of money, sell your current 5.29'd third, and get a tacoma rear axle either the trd-8.0" or non-trd-8.4", then re-gear it.  OR... stick with the 94 rear housing and use spacers or wheel offset to get the width you're looking for.

Thanks , I will probley take your advise and just stick with the 94 housing . How come when you get stuff give to you it will almost never work out the way you intended it too. Case closed.

I had a taco w/36 x14.50 rad. tsl's and I bashed the living snot out of that truck it was not a trd but i never had any problems with my rear, if you are planing on running on the street often i would not run wheel spacers we were advised not to put a wheel on a rig with wheels spacers, when i worked at les schwab because they said that they had proof that it causes the wheel to shimy and eventually come loose not fun at highway speed
