Cabin Canyon (Mesquite) Feb 18th
« on: Feb 01, 2006, 09:58:09 PM »
Wheelin' and work party at the sight of the GGG.  We will be wheelin' to the upper trail and workin' on getting it cleared and opened.  This is a fun trail.  Just ask Marlin about the last Glitter Gulch Gambol...

Mesquite Nevada is just west of the Utah Nevada border on I-15.  It's about halfway between Las Vegas and St.George.

I've seen a few almost stock Landcruisers do the main trail on 32s with open diffs but they would have had an easier time with at least one locker and 33s or better.  After we reach the parking lot at the top it gets tougher for a ways but that is the part of the trail we are wanting to fix.  There is a hundred yard section washed out and overgrown and we desprately need to reclaim it before the BLM changes their mind.

We will have agreat time and do some good for our sport.  Come on out.

I might be going, if i can get my truck put back together. I have a 85 xtra cab with 33's and open diffs do you think the trail is doable with that setup?

i have allpros 3 inch buggy springs on it. And the sway bar is long gone. But my front end parts haven't come in yet. So i don't get to play. Is the trail marked and easy to find. I grew up in logandale and have played in those mountains on dirtbikes and in trucks some. But have never heard of this trail, i would like to try it out when i finish my truck (yeah right when is a 4x4 ever finished).

Not really marked after the campground because it was a dirt road last year.  All the dirt is gone so you just follow the bouldery wash up stream.  There are still places where you use segments of the dirt road but for the most part it's wheelin' at it's finest.

Forgot to mention that there are quite a few optional obstacles if you have a great desire to break parts or just play on tougher stuff.

Had a great time and got the trail opened.  Cabin Canyon can be driven.  It's not easy but it is possible.  The total carnage guys out of Vegas did some of the work about a month ago and we finished it on saturday.  Had 3 Cruisers, a Toy-mini, an EB, and a Jeep in attendance.

Good times...
