I am rebuilding my front knuckles on my 80 p/u.  When I went to pull out the axle on the drivers side it was getting wedged between the lower flat on the burf. and the top of the inside seal.  I got it out with a lot of work and destroying the seal. I don’t think I can get it in without destroying the new seal. I have 2 questions.

1. Has anyone else had this problem?

2. Would it be a problem to grind down the lower flange so the burf. will fit without destroying the seal?  I mite note that it looks like they didn’t grind it down enough in the first place and this problem is a manufacturing mistake.
