I have an 84 long bed with a 22R. From the info I've found it has a G52 tranny and a RF1A fwd shift t-case.

My issue/question is with a transmission I picked up last weekend. The t-case that I got with it (separated) is a RF1A top shift but I'm not sure what the transmission is and that's what I need help identifying. It's a 5 speed, has an integral bell housing and its OAL is 20.75".
I'm not sure if it's a L50 or an L52 and for that matter, what would be the differencesbetween the 2.
Can anybody help me ID this thing and/or enlighten me as to the pros and cons of L50 VS the L52??

TIA Yaul!

to tell the difference  you'll have to pull the input bearing cover and get the number from the bearing

the top shift tcase is perfect for running the dual cases,  i would be interested in the L50-52 if you dont need it

the G tranny is better than the L  but  too long really for 1st gen trucks

I'll pull the cover and look. I started to today (got it up on the bench and all) but had to stop and do something else.

So, what am I looking for?... The 50 use a smaller bearing that's prone to failure or what? Any other differances???

Can you snap a picture of it?

Nope I'm a poor boy wheeler with no digi cam. I may be able to get a friend to take and send me a pic but that don't look promising.

Thanks for the reply.

Anybody else?

So, it would be L50/G52/RF1A.
Wish it was a L52 so Marlin could do his old L52HD trick to it.
