Here is my rears up front, my axle is moved ahead about 3"

You can see my 36" tires fit in there with a lot of extra space between the firewall.
This will work on your 84, but it will move your axle ahead at least 1.5" I think.

heres mine, lifted about 4 inches, maybe 5 with the shackles where they are, i moved the axle about 4 inches forward as you can see.
lots a flex, soft on the road, and cheap as all hell...well free

hugh jeffner

here's mine - i took two packs of rears and made one - the only leaf left out was the main one from the second pack

full stuff...........

droop........

i made three inch shackles for the springs and from full droop to max stuff is like 12 inches

how far will (without moving the center pin) the axle come forward?  i dont have time to get driveline work done. i have e-lockers front and rear with 4.30 gears and really only looking for room for 33s till i have money to finish drivetrain.

The centerpin on the rear springs is not centered, that is why everyone uses them up front. There main purpose is to move the axle ahead to fit larger tires without hitting the firewall. It comes ahead about 3", as stated above.

What leafs did you use from the two sets of rears to make your front springs? And how muchh lift did you get?

1Bad4Runner

I used my stock ones and a set of 2wd springs (2 leaves and a helper). I used the main 2wd leaf, second leaf is main 4wd leaf, third 2wd origonal 2nd leaf, fourth 4wd 2nd leaf, fifth 4wd 3rd leaf.

This gave me about 4" of lift with stock shackles. I never measured it so I am not positive.

So, you put in a new front hanger for the SAS, but let the stock shackles? How is the pinion angle with this setup? I've got an '85 4runner and am going to add a new front hanger, to correct the pinion angle, but I thought that I'd have to get longer shackles also.

One thing that you can do is use the main leaf from your front pack, and then build the pack using the rear springs.
Finally got my '85 4runner!
Let the buildup begin!

4runner freak, My pinion angle is almost perfect... my shackles aren't stock, but they are the stock length. I had to cut and re-drill them because my pinion angle was to high.
The reason for this is becuase my axle is custom built and I built it before I even had the truck so the pinion angle was biult to high.

I did have a drop hangers made (which I didn't actually need), they gave me a little more hight but I would have rather put a set of lower mounts.
