GM Hydra-Boost
« on: Jan 01, 2006, 05:13:24 PM »
I am in the middle of getting all my parts together for a revamp of my 4runner.
My current plans include:305 or 350 smallblock (haven't decided which one I'm gonna use yet),T/H 350,np205,converted dually rear axle, toy front beefed up and some other little things.
Since I will be upgrading the brakes I am thinking about using a GM hydra-boost and m/c from a 1 ton.Has anyone done this conversion? What did you have to do to make it work?

I don't like hydra boost. Imagine going down a steep hill and have the engine die. The brakes go completely away before you step on the peddle.

At least the vacuum booster will retain some vacuum for the first couple pushes on the peddle.

I thought about that, but with a good e-brake I'm not that worried and I could always hit park.

:haha: Park? are you kidding, have you ever seen what happens to a park cog? They will bust off if too much pressure is applied and you don't want to try to use them while moving.

Hope this don't sound like I am ragging on you, but That is dangerous to use park on any steep hill and not have a better brake assist.

Hydra boost may still let you apply the brakes, but I am sure it is hard as hell.

I wasn't seriously thinking about throwing it in park,I was trying to be a smart  :moon: .
And I didn't take it as ragging Mark,I value your opionion.
I've got access to a 1 ton with hydra-boost on it,I'll have to check it out and see what the brakes are like in the event of the engine dying.
