I am looking into setting up on board air and was wondering if anybody had any experience with OMIX-ADA's compressor kits yet, specifically the 400p.

A flow rate of 2.5 cfm puts it into the same class as a ViAir 400 for roughly half the price.  I just wonder what the quality of the compressor is.

I don't see any prices on there...to me that means they want too much for it.  It looks like the same cheapy compressor that people were buying at Kragen a while back.  They were paying about 30 bucks and they said the little guys worked pretty well.  Instead of the gator clips you can just hardwire them.

You don't have an ac pump?  The ac with a tank is a nice setup.

Seems reasonable...are you going to run a tank?
Nice thing about that Puma is 100% duty cycle.

Sorry for the thread jack but I have been spying on some OBA threads recently. I'm looking to either use a a/c comp or an electric. What I dont know is duty cycle?? Please explain. Thank you

Duty cycle pretty much means how long the unit can run before it needs some cool down time.  The Puma has 100% duty cycle so it can run continuusly.  A 30% duty cycle means that, for example, for every 3 minutes it is running it will need 7 minutes of down time to cool the compressor (ina 10 minute period).

Ooooh I see. Very nice. Thank ya Cteng. So that puma is a pretty nifty lil guy huh? I might have to look into that thing until I get a real OBA going on.

If you were to hard mount and hard wire the puma, I would argue that it is a "real" OBA setup.  I may run this over the ac comp setup, I haven't decided.

Very true, but what I'm looking for in a "real" OBA is something that I can run air tools from, air up tires quick, etc. I could plumb the puma to a larger tank couldnt I? Then I'd be able to do what I want. It would just take forever for it to fill that tank the first time.

You certainly can plumb a larger, or even a second tank, however the reviews are that the Puma is fast for airing up tires and will run 3/8 air tools with little problem.

You would have to run a york and a tank to really have much of an advantage over this little guy.  I don't know why I am arguing about it so much, you'd think I was sellin them. :screwy:

derek

my oba (toy compressor with tank) will run air tools better than my club members puma.
the puma is nice, but it is bulky and takes up quite a bit of space.
i still prefer my oba. its reliable and fast.

Kool, thanks for the info!  I can never decide if I want to get a 12v setup, or maybe I should just use that ac comp that isn't hooked to anything under me hood.

I was looking at the Puma too but I decided it was too big.  The prices I looked up were 149.00 for the Omix-ADA and 209.oo for the Viair unit.  The only main differences I could find is that the Omix is 20% duty cycle with 30 minute continuous duty and the Viair is 33% cycle/40 minute continuous.  I know the Viair is sealed; not sure about the Omix. The Omix unit to me looks kind of cheaply built whereas the Viair looks like a more solid unit.  Anyone else have any opinions?
