2 Seater 4Runner?
« on: Dec 26, 2005, 08:15:26 PM »
I recently  bought another 4runner, call it an addiction if you will. Scored big with this one, at least I think so. The truck is an 86 4runner, which I bought from the origional owner. The truck has 135,000 miles on it and is in pristine condition. I got the truck, which needs a clutch cylinder, and solid front axle, a lock-rite in the box and a roll bar for $600. My question is this, has anyone ever seen a two seater 4runner? It has the same back as my other 86, but it doesnt have a seat. It has a bed that goes right up to the front seats.
it does not have a roll bar in the bed, though it has the mounting holes, which were never used. It is regestered as a wagon, and I was wondering if anyone had ever seen this? I'll include a picture or two. Thanks for the responses.

Toyota would import Runners as trucks to save $ on duties and then have them converted as dealer options of at RV conversion places. Some never got converted or were sold as trucks or 2 seat wagons. This is second hand info for me but I am sure there are guys on here that confirm or Deny.

My dad bought a runner in 85 which I have now.  It only came with two seats.  What I heard was that runners that only had two seats where manufactured directly from japan and brought over.  I have purchased seats for mine since then.  If you look closely, part of the bed will remove so you can bolt in seats.

I know of 2 guys that had this setup, but have since been converted to 4-seaters.  I think they were packaged and a bottom of the line panel truck type of vehichle.  The ones I've seen never came with a/c.

yep my runner came this way,it did have a rollbar in it when I got it,don't know if it always had one but it didn't have a rear seat and I don't think there ever was one cause the bolt holes still had paint in the threads. It does have a/c.

Thanks for the info guys, but I think I'm going to keep it a 2 seater. More storage space, and people in the back ruin flex anyway. I had never seen one, and I told my uncle, who is a first gen Toyota fanatic, and he had never even heard of one. I don't think this one has AC, but I dont really care if it does. I am going to put this body on my other frame and use the engine and tranny out of the new one too. This is going tom be an interesting build, for sure.

What's nice about this feature is that anyone with a runner can have this option as long as you can find the bed piece!  I've been able to haul oversized items with just the two seats.

I posted in the Wanted section, as I want one.  Hope they aren't too rare.   :crossed:

You can definately hold some big stuff back there, as you can see in my first pic, my solid axle is sitting in the back right now. Better then in the yard.

My 85 is a conversion. When I bought it from the original owner, he told me the story that Zukizzy provided above. It has AC but was basically a "floormat special" that was converted at an RV shop (added the rear seat and carpet over the vinyl mats. If you look close on the tail gate, to the right of the 4 Runner emblem, there is an oval shaped emblem riveted onto the body from "RVIA" (SP?) with a serial #. :twocents:
