Hey guys, I want your opinion,
which axle would hold up better under a 327 Cruiser, a GM 10 bolt, 12 bolt, late model Toy V6, or Dana 44? I need a center diff rear end.
thanks, Mike :headscratch:

10 and 12 bolt are prety strong, safe for 35s or so with a v8, a 44 would be a little better, but believe it or not the toyota rear has got my vote as the strongest and by far the most compatable with the rest of the rig

where are you located??

toy V6  is probably all you need

but maybe a 12bolt or 44 if you have one handy

10bolt would be a waste of your time

10bolt rearend are OK but the 12bolt is even better  orrrr.. 10 bolt housing with 12bolt side gears to run 12bolt  shafts  so you can go to 5.56 gears and get a 10bolt front :).. 12bolt rears are great also  ive seen them hold up to 40"+ tall tires  in hardcore extreme bound up situations.

i personally believe the 10 and 12 bolt gm rear ends are complete pieces of junk.  pretty sure they're still around from some secret agreement with gear shops to keep them in good business

with a V8, 35s, and a heavy rig like a cruiser, i'd be looking at something like a ford 9" or a dana 60 rear end.  both are pretty easy to come by and plenty strong enough.

crawlerdan

ok...i understand that some have grudges with the 10/12 bolts...but let me say this-i personally owned a 12 bolt that i found in a feild-put 5.38s and a spool in, and ran without changing bearings or anything like that. i had it in a truck with 39.5 boggers that i frequently ran at 2 psi- and had triple transfer cases in that truck, so lots andlots of torque going through it, not only did i NEVER have any problems with it, but it held up through 45 or so rubicon trips 50 or so fordyce trips, freeway driving, the little sluice, trees, and my dumbass playing monter truck rally and jumpung the hell out of it.

not to shabby for an axle that is as easy to find as toes-and so cheap to build and maintain its stupid.is it as strong as a 60? no.
but compared to the costs in building both...id take it any day--dan :twocents:

hell yea dan!  people that talk smack bout 10/12 bolts are usually misinformed  about them. they usually see the  OMG C CLIP !!!   funny how alot of guns run a semi float ( c clip) 60 rears in their rigs.. i know of one thats under a yota  223:1  and 49" iroks and has not broke. the 44 front.. well...  he broke a moser inner/outer ( ears) but the ctm survived..  but thats a snow rig..  sees rocks in the summer ontop of 44" boggers

When I asked aboout running a d44 and 12 bolt under my rig I was told it was a waste of time :dunno: . I personally don't have much experience with these axles, just wanted to go fullwidth and be able to keep my current beadlocks. I would also like to hear more about them because I can get a set for next to nothing from under a 3/4 ton suburban.

i ran a 44 and a 12 bolt in my competiotion buggy, again, with 39.5 boggers, and a 441.1 crawl ratio only problems i had was breaking stub shafts in the 44, until i went to chromos. easy to find parts for, cheap also. unless you got 60s layin around, or have unlimited funds, a 44 will be great in an average wheeler

I'm a Dana fan so of course I'm going to say go with the Dana 44.

Sorry Kyle .... if you compare apples to apples, the material used in the Toyota's are a different (stronger) material then most others.  Main reason they last so long and work so well for wheeling.  We can thank the Japs for this many years ago when they started building cars.
It's built Chevy tough with Toyota stuff!

IronClad

dont forget that  the cruisers used c clip rearends ;)
