What are these brackets for? IFS
« on: Dec 10, 2005, 05:17:00 PM »
I was putting a skid plate on my dads 86 toyota, and he wants to know what these brackets are for. My knowledge is mostly for solid axle trucks like my 85. Any help, did they make a different kind of skidplate?

I beleive those are the factory skidplate mounts, and I dont know if they make an aftermarket plate that mounts differently
Sand, what fun, drop pressure to 12psi, stock tires are still digging, can't afford to get stuck, 8psi, still not working. Find a place to GET OUT, air up, un-lock hubs,  WAIT whats this, hubs are UN-LOCKED already. 2wd, 8psi, stock tires, Oregon sand dunes.

I didnt bolt the skid plate to those I bolted under the crossmember there were holes for it there and everything lined up. So maybe they made two factory plates I'm not sure just guessing. Thanks

I know tacomas come with a two piece skid plate, the older IFS trucks prob did too.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

They are just there so you have something to hold onto when torching the IFS off for the SAS

I really don't know what they're for...I see 'em everyday on older rigs at work, and nothings ever attached to them.

Don't think so.  I cut those brackets off my truck.  They weren't being used, and my skidplate bolts up to the holes under the crossmemeber, so :dunno:

That is the same on my 93.  The skid plate bolt to the crossmember.  Those two brackets are on my truck as well and nothing is bolted to them.
