Hey All,

Hope this is in the correct  area...

My 2nd gen '95 runner is leaking a fair amount of oil from what I've been told is thr rear oil seal of the engine.  The truck has 148k on the clock and is an automatic with the 3.slow...

I've been told I can save a boatload of money by doing this myself, I have a heated garage but very few tools but I'm willing to try the repair anyway by begging, renting, buying what's needed.  I have a couple of friends who'll help...none of us has done a transmission pull before on a 4x4.  One of us did a van a long time ago.  I've been told I need a transmission jack...I've been told I can "do it in the dirt" in my garage without a lift.

I've reviewed the FSM and Haynes and Chilton to get familiar with the proceedure...one of you with lots more skill than I, BigMike wrote a very good step-by-step in another thread but I believe it was targeted at a manual trans...dunno if the procedure is the same or not?  So if you don't mind, I'll be asking questions as the time draws near (sometime around the first of the year)

Any advice/recomnedations on tools I'll need, etc. will be greatly appreciated (GOOD advice can be exchanged for cold beer, a pull behind my wakeboat, a day on the river, whatever)

I don't know what the auto is like, but a buddy and I used to bench press his w56 in and out of the truck.  Out is easier than in usually (stop thinking dirty!).  With a large floor jack you can use a piece of plywood and a couple hands to support it.  Think creatively, it can be done.
IFS is best kept at ambient temperature in a pile of scrap in the backyard.  When kept under a functioning vehicle, it tends to greatly diminish said vehicle's offroad ability.     -reklund5

i just swapped out the tranny on my manual, its also a 22r though... i replaced my rear seal..... i jsut drained the tranny.... and lowered it myself... to avoid dropping the tranny straight on the floor, i got creative with ratchet straps and the torsion bars.... i lowered it down like they do at funerals with the casket.....

i can stab a gear tcase by lifting it in and holding with one hand then starting a bolt,  but then thats probably why i have the back and joint problems i do now :thud:   the auto tranny is way heavy,  GET A TRANNY JACK  or  a atv jack works well also

then justremove the bellhousing bolts and drop it out, then remove the touque converter and flex plate,  then replace your seal and repeat the process in reverse
