Job hunt may be over...KANSAS!?
« on: Nov 30, 2005, 11:25:51 AM »
Well, just got back from Wichita, had me an interview with Spirit Aerosystems and they left me a voice mail before I even got off the plane in CT.  Somehow I brought my A-game and kicked butt in the interview...I never interview well.  I called them and they offered me a position, full benys, and relocation costs...I only got to see Kansas for a day, but it seemed alright...now I gots to figure out how to get my rig down there.  I have till friday to accept the offer.

Any thoughts?

You makin fun of me about the Jesus thread???   :screwy:  :disturbed:

I do find it interesting that I make fun of Kansas and their intelligent design issues and now I may move there...a bit ironical isn't it.

My best friend just got a job in Wichitah too.  He did really good in an interview for Cessna, so he heads out next month.  Hope you guys can find some places to wheel your toys out there.

Good for him!
Yeah, I notices as I was leaving Spirit that there is an off road shop less than a mile down the road.

I'd highly recommend you stay as far away from trailer parks as possible, as they seem to be a magnet for tornados.

Congrats on the job offer, I'd say "TAKE IT!"

I grew up in Kansas and it isn't all bad, I just got tired of the midwest.  Look for houses on the northeast side of town, that is the newer part, or better yet, snatch up a sizable piece of land just north of Wichita (where all of the businesses are starting to build) and build yourself a house some backyard wheeling.

Wichita has some great history, the first Pizza Hut was built there on the WSU campus and of course all of the aviation history.

Congrats and good luck.
Doin' it FULLSIZE style!

Well thanks for the sentiments...I will be sure to stay away from trailer parks, I saw Twister, I know what can happen! :gap:  I want to rent a house for a year or so and then maybe look into buying a place.

Don't forget those lovely chiggars either, those buggers suck.  They do have fireflies though, kinda neat if you have kids.  We went there to visit kin every few years when I was a kid and all I remember were those and it was hot and dry, which I'd take over our local hot and muggy.  Flat too, soooooo flat.  Should be some good fishin and whitetail hunting too if that floats your boat.......wait, am I tryin to talk you into moving there or me?!

Aww...thats sweet... :disturbed:

I have started looking into housing and such...it is a big move but the company is really amazing and the people there are wonderful.  I am hesitant about Kansas, but the opportunity is just too good to turn down.

Congrats on the job!

I grew up in Colorado and the best thing coming out of Kansas is I-70, I have heard that they actually required minor turns on the otherwise perfectly straight freeway to keep drivers awake.  The majority of people in Kansas travel to Colorado for all forms of entertainment, this is the honest truth.  It can be extremely hot in the summer and cold in the winter, I suspect that ice storms are common. I went to college for a couple of years in eastern Nebraska, which is a similar climate and we joked that in the summer it was hot as hell and then hell froze over in the winter, I know that CT isn't a mild climate, but I would bet that KS is more extreme.  Hopefully you either have a tow rig or it can be driven on the highway, the speed limit is 75 mph in Kansas and Colorado.
