Liberty Trail, Penrose, Colorado
« on: Nov 29, 2005, 07:47:15 PM »

Ended up getting the tan 85 quite a bit of body damage due to no rock sliders  :therethere:   Other than that and my brother's Jeep getting a rock in the rear disc brake line and leaking a little, it was a great day!

:rofl2: Funny the first thing I said was someone screwed this thread up by putting a Jeep in the first picture. Looks like an awsome trail, lots of big rocks. My favorite stuff.

Hey that tan truck looks like i have seen that before,  ;)
Yah I really need to get some rock slide, or make some, but I just don't have the time or money right now.  I'll have to take some pics of the carnage.  Luckily it was only cosmetic, almost dumped it more than ounce, but good thing I had a good spotter  .
I thought I was going to pop a birf ounce but it didn't go :crossed: .

How long does it take to get thru that trail, and is there also any other trails there in colorado, that U know of ? I'm wanting to take a trip next year to Utah and colorado few a few weeks and do some wheelin. So I'm looking for hard trails. The only ones I know of are clamity caynon and now Liberty trail.

Actually, this is the easier of the two trails in Penrose.  Patriot is very challenging.  I would suggest looking at colorado4x4.org under the Trip Reports section.

It took us about 3 hours.  We were stopping and taking pictures and stuff.  The trail itself is probably 1.5 miles long, there and back 3 miles.

Here's some pictures of Patroit

Trail on the west side of the rocky mountains near grand junction called Die Trying
http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=49504

There is also another one called 21 Road, Buena Vista Carnage (http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=49135), Chinamans, Billings Caynon (http://www.colorado4x4.org/vbb/showthread.php?t=49870)

That should keep you busy looking at pictures

I walked the original trail in Penrose, Colorado and they looked crazy to me.  I grew up in Colorado and there are lots of great trails, but not all of them are "extreme."  Colorado has unique wheeling.

(1) Mount Blanca Trail
(2) Holy Cross
(3) Red Cone
(4) Black Bear
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Moab Tested & Rubicon Approved

Those are good as well.  I forgot to put Blanca and Holy Cross on the above post for being fairly difficult.  Red Cone has a crazy steep hill that can only be driven downhill.  Black Bear is a great trail as well that puts you above the little town of Telluride with some amazing views of the valley and a great waterfall.

They have been around for 6-7 years.  Penrose is considered some of the toughest 4wheeling in CO

Cool. I have always wondered how people find trails when they are not in their home territory. I have thought of going to CO for some wheeling but I would have no idea where to go  :dunno: I imagine you guys are close enough to know the good spots.
