It is normal, heater does not work in the vent position

what kind of mumbojumbo is that

:headscratch: What you been hittin' the rag a little hard lately, huffin' eat cells man guess I'll break it up for you so that you can understand me

First part:   It is normal.......... that means that is the way it works which would answer your question of is your heater F**ked up, no it is not f**ked up it is normal that the floor and the rest blows cold. If you happen to have it in the BI-LEVEL position you will get both hot and cold air blowing through the vents. If you have it in the VENT position you will only get cold air. If you have it in the heater position you should only get hot air, and if you have it in the DEF position you should only get hot air. Oh there is another little lever there too, it says warm and cool you must move that lever to achieve any heat or coolness. Does that help your question any?

Second part: does not work in the vent postion........ that means that when the little knob that says DEF, HEAT, BI-LEVEL, VENT is in the VENT position the heater is off.

So now I've made it real confusing for you to figure out since you couldn't figure out a simple reply do you get it now? Also if the cold air is only flowing as you are driving you may want to check the holes in your floorboard, the duct-tape covering the holes may have come loose.

I guess it just proves that depending on your mood you can read something differently than when you are more objective. When I first read it with my red glasses onI was thinking he was saying that my answer was mumbojumbo. Now with a little help from my friends I'm thinking that he was refering to the system being mumbojumbo.

i think the stock heaters in the '79-83 trucks were total and complete JUNK.  nothing worse on a 20* morning to fire up the HEAT at full blast and get freezing cold air coming from that center vent.  especially when the little flippers are missing   now even better, i fire my truck up for the first time in 2 months and now the blower doesn't even work.  i think i'm gonna junk it for one of those mojave heater setups.

the little ball vents are a different story, i can close those, and they're nice on hot days.

all the other trucks i've own have blown hot air out of the vents if the heat control is set that way.  nice and toasty :ladys-man:

nope, defrost just blows warm air up by the windshield.  at least on the '79-83 trucks, the heat/vent and a/c were entirely different systems.  on a/c equipped trucks, the cold air blows through the ball vents but on non-a/c trucks, they're just fresh air vents(more air comes in the faster you drive)
