I recently bought a 89 fullsize Blazer with a bad front ring gear. It has a 3/4 ton Dana 44 in the front now. I have a brand new 1/2 ton 10 bolt front ring and pinion. Will the new 1/2 ton 10 bolt ring and pinion fit in the 3/4 ton Dana 44 axle? Basically what I am asking is if there is a difference in the 3/4 ton and 1/2 ton axles and in Dana 44 and 10bolt axles. I think it should work but I don't know for sure. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it won't work.I think the 44 has bigger bearings than the 10 bolt.

try this web page.  if you can't find the answer call them up.  i have found them to be very helpful and they have good prices and service for parts as well.

if the half ton front axle is a dana 44 then i think it may work.  i was told before that the difference between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton dana 44 front axle is the knuckles and hubs and spindles and brakes.

It's kind of funny ..... most wheeler guys overlook the GM 10 bolt and think the D-44 is the "only" way to go but if you were to compare "apples to apples" the 10 bolt has more positive points about it, the bearings being the main one.

Also, the aftermarket world has never opened up on the 10 bolt so it is less atractive for build ups. :shake_head:
It's built Chevy tough with Toyota stuff!

yep, i'd rather have a 10 bolt under the front end than a 44, people practically give them away for free.  swap in a rear carrier with 30 spline axles and you're good to go

I found a 1/2 ton front Dana 44 for cheap that I can take the ring and pinion out of and put into mine  :eyebrow:

That'l work. Only differences in 1/2 and 3/4 ton 44s are tube thickness and the outers for either 6 or 8 lug.

only 30spl rear 10bolts are in the new trucks and they are garbage ( small bearing junk)   just get the 30spl stuff out of a 89- sub  shafts and carrier all guud.  im running the 28spline stuff with a 28 spline govlock out of a rear 10bolt but will be running a bigger bearing setup

I assume you run fullwidth axles in your Toyota? Do you ever break them or are they strong enough in a Toyota?

yeah i run  fullwidth 10bolt front and 12bolt rear..  i never broke a shaft but i split my fozzy locked carrier in half ( basicly semi welded.. so it would still halfway ratchet)  so im gonna run a  dredded govlock in the front that has been shimmed to lock harder  hehe  10 bolt stuff rocks.. its cheap  plentefull and nobody wants them but the people that actually know the facts about them :D

How can you visually differentiate a 10bolt front from a Dana 44? I haven't seen them side by side in quite in a while.

the 10bolt fronts have  like  ahalf oval half circle cover that doesnt look like any other axle .. or looks like this

minus the maxi pad
