Detroit vs. Aussie

I would probably have to hold both of them in my hands and spend some time    but it is possible that the Aussie pins are not loaded (shear) the same way the other are.

All that I know is that very few Aussie Locker fail and I have heard numerous tales about the others...so I chose Aussie

I just emailed the Torque Masters engineers with the quote and asked for more explaination.  So far they have been good about answering my questions.

"For many years Lock Right has promoted the pins in their locker as "shear
pins". This was done in their promotional materials, installation manuals
and interviews with company officers and employees.  Today for example,
there are photos of Lock Right lockers on Pirate that are broken, and have
the pins broken. According  to Lock Right their pins are designed to shear
at some point relieving stress on the locker or components. Therefore, the
assumption has to be that if you own a Lock Right locker you should expect
to see pins shear under certain conditions.  They even sell pin and spring
replacement kits also called "rebuild kits" by some.

Our design philosophy is that a well designed and manufactured locker,
installed according to the instructions provided should not shear pins. The
almost three years of experience of Aussie Locker customers in the USA and
Canada bear out our contention that Aussie Locker owners should not expect
their pins to break or shear.  The total number of instances of broken pins
are around 6 and in 5 of the instances the customers have indicated to us
that they had not followed the installation instructions."

hey does the tru trac replace the 3rd memeber carrier t0o?
if so that'll save me 75 bucks for a 3rd member as i dont have one in the front solid axle i recently acuired..

I have a Truetrac Front for an 8 cyl that I would consider selling.  PM me if you have any interst.  It is fairly low mileage and in great shape.

It replaces the entire carrier.  I had to get an open carrier when I had it swapped to an Aussie with 30-spline Longs.  Without the upgraded front axles, I wouldn't run anything but a Truetrac.

lilbudy broke his Aussie at the Hammer's, he's still driving around on it from what he said. I don't think he's busted it open yet. I think I'll pm him and let him know about the pins and he should check before it's too late.

there is truely no difference between and aussie locker and a lockright.

Yeah i probably should check. Its soooooooooooooooooo bad. You should have heard this thing at the end of Jackhammer goin up that sandy hilll...... All it was doing was clicking and poping. Its bad news...
