Stock A/c air comp what oil
« on: Oct 10, 2005, 08:31:49 PM »
I just started turning my a/c into an air compessor but im wondering what would be the best oil to put into the oil feeder. I was thinking mobile 1 synthetic any sugestions. Also I removed my heater core blower fan evaporator and all the air ducts, does anyone think its a bad idea to put my air tank under the dash now that theres all that room? you can fit a prity good size tank up under there now

why would you run mobil 1?  It's an AC compressor, so I'd run Ester 100 or PAG 150, since thats what it was designed to use.  As far as the air tank, I don't see why not, but make it a good tank, make sure you have a pressure release valve on it.  If you get in a wreck, she could blow. Shrapnel from an 1/8" 175PSI tank doesn't sound fun.

I have been using compressor oil mixed with a little slick 50 on my compressors. I use a drip oiler attached by a hose to the schrader valve on the intake side. My first compressor lasted almost 2 years.

Some of the setups I've seen have a coalescing filter on the output side of the compressor, with a valve to return the oil to the front of the compressor.  By design, coalescing filters remove oil from the air, so you don't fill your tires with oil; then you shoot it back to the compressor.

Thanks. and the reason why i thought of using some kind of sythetic oil was because the system no longer has any freon going thru it and why not give it something better for lubrication. The main reason why a/c systems use ester and pag oils is because there combatability with the freon and the ability for them to not effect the properties of the freon.

i dunno, my main reason against you synth idea was that it might be too thin and not lube it properly. :dunno:

i have never had an inline oiler, but know some people that have.
i have a filter on the intake, i just open it and dump a teaspoon or so of lube in every once in a while.
been running it for 2 years or so now with no problems.
