waht is the difference between the 21 spline one for 1300 , and the 23 spline one for 1500, does the 21 spline only go on a 4cyl and the 23 go to a v6 what, or is it that the 23 is just bigger and better to use on my stock tranny 4banger

23 splines are turbo units, i dentical to the 21 splines except for thi input and out put shafts are slightly larger to handle the added horsepower of the turbo, so they are a little stronger

yotacrawler4

so i would still be able to use this with a non turbo truck

crawlerdan

yes, but the tranny, and all tcases myst have the same spline count for obvious reasond, 21 and 23 splines will not interchange with eachother

yotacrawler4

so i will have to change the output shaft on the tranny and thats it then if i buy the UDC

yes, marlin sells these, why do you want to run the 23s tho? i have had a 200 horse 22r on 21 splines with no prob, and also built a rig with a blown 327 and a stock case also with no prob, it would be alot cheaper to stay with the 21 spln, unless you just like overbuilding, wich is ok in my book, just wondering if you have other plans?

yotacrawler4

no i dont have much bigger plans i just want the MUDC , and i want a strong truck but if you say that it aint that neccesary them i prolly get the 21 spline

well it really isnt, your looking at about a 12% increase in s\haft strength, which...isnt really that much, ive run countless rigs with 40 plus tirews and nasty powerful motors on stock toy cases and never broke one, i twisted one a little a few weeks back, and had to replace it, but it was used for 4 years before i got it, i think that you will be more than ok with the 21s in your rig, just my opinion

yotacrawler4

i mean i only do tuff little trails around my place in washington, i havent gone to the rub , or moab but im planning to so i just want my truck to besetup for the trails, i wont have no damn 350 or anything just i going to build my 22re to about 150 horse and thats it, and lock it and so on so u think ill be fine then? :beerchug:

crawlerdan

i got a 175 horse 22re and dual ultimates with 37x14 toyo muds, and i will never brake a 21 spline unless i get stoopid and start thrashing stuff, but that wont happen

yotacrawler4

oh yeah, what have u done to your 22re to get that much horse

custom intake, flowmaster, mass airflow mods, a cam, port and polished head and computer designed intake manifold with an oversized throttle body. also, i had a195 hose carburated 22r in my last truck, that thing was freakin mean!!

yotacrawler4

what have u done to the mass air flow, i got a new trd stage 2, going into a 89 22re head that im getting lc oversized valves , bigger springs , port and polished, i got flowmaster with no cat 2 1/4 exhaust all the way, k&n filter charger kit , i got a balanced bottom end thats it for the bottom, what else should i do?

crawlerdan

i had it rebuilt all retarded like by my step bro who is a computer engineer.
as for what else, intake mods are good, also, jet chips can modify the computer for better acceleration, and a electric fan helps a little, bout 5 horse, piston mods, overboring, strocker kits, its only money right?

yotacrawler4

i got  a flex fan setup but still what about the mass air flow mods

crawlerdan

you ccan trick it into drawing more air, the the computer compensates by adding more fuel, wala more power

crawlerdan

a little hard to describe verbally, but if you search the web for mass air flow mods, 4x4 wire has a great write up on this mod

yotacrawler4

u talkin about like the gear inside the maf, turning it to richin or lean it?

WHITE_TRASH

Get the 4.7's in 23 spline and the first case in 21 spline.  That way you have the stronger second input where the load is increased due to the reduction ahead of it.  And the whole shebang will bolt right up to your trans with no mods.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

yotacrawler4

so get the one case with 4.7s and the 23 and the other the just regular with the 21 spline is that what ur saying

WHITE_TRASH

Yup Id have saved a decent chunk of change if Id have gotten  my Mco7 in 23 spline when it came time to put 4.7's in the rear case...  Do it right, do it once. ;)
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

yotacrawler4

well i was going to have 4.7s in the rear anyway so it doesnt matter if i get the 21 or 23 i will at least have one set of 4.7s in them

WHITE_TRASH

Ill make this easy.  You current W56 has a 21 spline output.  So that means the first case needs a 21 spline input to match.  The second case see's a helluva lot more torque load than the first one ever will so its a good idea to have a 23 spline input for the 4.7's so they will last pretty much forever.  No the Marlin 21 spline 4.7's arent weak but if its the same cost why not do it?
