i have heard to not use a spool if u tend to drive the trail rig alot on and off the trail because of the pressure it puts on your axle and it tends to were them out faster, is this true or not and if it is what locker should i get so i dont have this type of problem and have to replace bearings and all the crap :turtle:

On the trail you won't have any problems or draw backs using a spool. For daily drivers, this is probably not the route you want to take for a traction device. It will add stress to you axles and cause more wear on your treads. This is bacause your outer tire travels farther in a corner than you inner tire. With the spool installed both tire are going to traver the same distance all the time. That means alot of torque for the inner side of any turn on pavement. If you want a daily driver traction device a spool will work given its draw-backs, but you may want to look into a Limited Slip type locker.

thats what i mean, then would a detroit work well, im not driving a tone but i still want to keep my axles in good shape

Get a Detroit locker, I know its a little pricey, but in the long run its the right choice.

I've had on my rig 8 years now, My truck is an 1988 V6 and i put the detriot in 1997 with the gears and same whole rear end and never had any problems. I love my detroit.

D'OH :smack: of course not recommended for on road use. Have you ever heard a vehicle with a spool tryin to turn a corner? Not only does it hurt yer tires a lil bit, it greaters yer risk of rolling.  Since both tires HAVE to spin at the exact rate, instead of pivoting like a limited slip or something... make sense? plus... what toynorcal said

ah hell my toys me daily driver and its welded in the rear its not gunna wear your axles out unless your realy hard on it and perpusly trying to break somthing but you will have to replace your wheel bearings a little  more often and it does where your tires down quicker

The only vehicle I would never even cnsider putting one in is a 1/4 car(drag racing) spools are desinged for going in a straight line not for the road. Ever see an axle remove itself while driving down the road? it's funnier than hell as long as your not the owner. :haha: Your better off with a cheap locker. This is just my opinion. BTW this also does beat up your ring&pinion as well.

for a good inexpensive locker go with a aussie locker (www.offroadlocker.com) Ive heard good things about em.

I run a Spool(rear) In my DD w/37's.........The only Issues I have is:
1,The 3rd wants to stretch the studs for the 3rd member,Its fine on the street but everytime I hit the trail I have to retighten the studs(im thinking on going with a larger stud and mod the 3rd)

2,When turning sharp your tires will be chirping worse than a Welded or detroit Loker.

No tire wear issues Ive had the tires on since april and Im still around 85% on tread.....
