79-83 Quality Third Party Body Parts - Need Advise
« on: Sep 14, 2005, 12:48:31 PM »
Good Afternoon, I'm looking to restore a 1980 Pickup 4X4, including replacing body parts, Front Fenders, Hood, etc.

Does someone on this board have positive experience (fit, quality, etc) with third party body parts? and direct me to a source or brand?

Toyota Parts are outrageously hi priced!  Used parts for a 25 or 30 years old vehicle generally have the same problems, rust, dents, etc., so I'm looking at third party.  The Internet has many vendors.   I need direction, though.

Thanks, in advance for any informatin.

Nice truck, looks vaguely familiar. I know how hard it is to find some of those parts, I keep a collection of spare body parts as I can get them.

Yup, you might be better off finding good "used" parts, and then getting them painted/cleaned up

I third the idea of using stock parts.  If you find good quality aftermarket they'll undoubtedly cost a lot too.  Take your time and try hard to find good stock stuff.

I spoke to an individual who kinda specializes in Chevy Vehicles, he said he's had good luck with aftermarket body parts, with the except, at times you need to adjust for installation bolts.

hoping to get direct input from toyota owners.  recently, i check the price of a new factory toyota fender 80 for a 4X4 and was quoted $245 and search a found a reduced internet price of $160.  See below, very tempting:

I am currently restoring an '83 and I have bought several parts from www.partstrain.com . So far everything has been good quality parts at a fair price. I just hope you don't need a tailgate. I couldn't find anyone who sells a new one.

I bought a dash cover from JC whitney , and it looks awesome. It looks like a factory dash , you can't tell it's a cover.

Tempting yes, until you check out the shipping charge.  I saw these on ebay a while back and about puked when I saw how much more the shipping cost was than the item cost.

2wd vs 4wd front fenders, will 2wd fenders fit on 4wd???  I am just going to be cutting them anyway so the wide coverage doesn't matter

I agree with the High Shipping charge, I believe one of the vendors was charging $80 shipping charge for a fender :smack:... should get a break if you purchase several body parts at once.

If you don't mind how much did you pay for that and where did you get it from, I have a crack in mine where the speaker goes and yes I do have one of those carpet covers. Dang thing always comes flying off at the most inopertune moments.

I paid approximately, $65, not to cheap.  But literally looks brand new... It's a thin stiff plastic cover with some flexibility for installation.
Price from about $45 to $70, depends if you bid or buy outright, or if someone bids against you.  You can always find them on ebay, the seller ads new product as he sells.

Yes, slides over the original.  I have'nt install mine yet, only checked for fit, fits nice and snug. it comes with a cement.  you simply remove any high spots you may have currently on your dash and place over the current dash.
