400 dollar 87 toy truck! should i buy?
« on: Sep 10, 2005, 04:59:31 PM »
i posted this on pirate yesterday, and i went to look at the truck again today for a closer look.

it has a rust spot at the front of the bed on the driver's side, not that bad though.
the frame has surface rust on it from sitting.  needs alternator and rad. but it will reportedly run and drive.
it has a 22re that knocks. interior is all there, tranny and t-case shift well.
 137,000 miles on ODO.
needs paint, a driver's fender, tailgate
no AC

can i just grab the AC parts from another truck/runner and stuff em in?  is the wiring there from the factory for the air conditioning?  AC is one reason i want to build a toyota because i can't even put doors or a top on my EB anymore.

bottom line is: once i put AC in it and SAS, get it running will it be worth paying 300-400 for it now, or should i hold out and get a truck with AC and better engine?

I'd buy it at that price, can always part it out.  Just take a screw driver and poke at the frame with it.

It all starts with the frame if its good do it up, as long as you have the resources, time and coin to make it rght and your own. Make sure the title is good with matching #s to truck. Good luck

i talked to the guy again and he accepted my offer of 300 bucks.  i have to wait a couple of days before i can go back down and check to see if he has the title and if it is clear.

the frame is in good shape, no cracks and no major rust issues.  two rust spots on the truck and that's it.  it hasn't been driven in who knows how long, so i'm sure i'll run into some problems with brakes, seals, gaskets, etc...nothing major for what i want to do with it.

what's a good source for 22RE tech, b/c i'll need to do some stuff to get it running better.

thanks for the input guys

oh yeah, brainlessfool-thanks for your concern and willingness to go check it out for me! :headshake:
