I was told that at MCR4 someone will be checking for parking brakes.  Now, is someone pullin my leg or is that true? And if it's true, what is the consequence of not havin one?  :disturbed:

Could be the loss of someone's life...

At the box someone didn't use their parking brake, truck popped out of gear and almost killed a couple of people.

It's worth it to have one, wether it is required or not.

I understand that completely.  I wouldn't let my truck sit on the tranny I'd chock it and put on as flat of ground as I could find, I'm just askin cuz I don't have a parking brake, I plan to try to fix it but I'm not sure I'll be able to :dunno:

If they follow the normal inspection they will want your e-brake to be able to hold your vehicle still and kill the engine if you let out the clutch. That is what they do at TDS, Superstion and all Cal4Wheel events that I attend.

kill the engine in what gear? I doubt mine would kill the engine in double low

MCR4 is a dinner at the Rubicon Springs. It's not a trail run where we lead a group through the trail. So we won't be inspecting rigs. We will meet everyone at Rubicon Springs Saturday afternoon/evening. I would strongly recommend having a parking brake of some kind on your rig. Too many people have been killed and too many truck have been totaled as a result of not having a parking brake. If you don't have one, install one before you come or leave your truck at home.

When I went through tech at TDS I forgot that I was in 4wd low and when I did the test my truck did walk away with no problem, I told them the same thing you mentioned and they told me to put it in 2wd and try again. Truck wouldn't move, they just want to make sure your e-brake will hold the vehicle.

Well, i don't have a parking brake, it never really worked on my truck.  And the incident at little sluice was because he put his foot on the clutch.  It didn't pop out of gear.  But i guess if he had a parking brake it would have helped, unless he was too drunk to put it on which is prolly what happened.
