As most of you guys know, my 4runner blew up about a year ago. I rebuilt the engine 4 times, tranny twice, axles... you name it. Got tired of it and when i crystalized the piston rings... that was it. I cant work on that truck with a highschoolers income. Since then I bought a 98 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport 5.2L V8 Magnum. The new power is real real nice. Auto tranny is kinda nice when muddin too, although I had mine replaced already. Only had to replace tranny and fuel pump so far, gotta get AC and grill and some other :pokinit: fixed though, not too bad with 135k on it, got it for 5995 so cant complain. The grill is gone cause i went muddin and slammed into the back of my friend, busted headlight and dented fender also. One busted corner light and dented fender from a cone that I decided to hit at 50. Right now I have a 3" suspension lift on it, with 35" Goodyear A/T. Puttin a 7.5" Fabtech with 3" body lift, thats 10.5 more inches, with 42" SSR's. Cant wait, but since I've been dorment for so long just figured I'd post a couple of pics of it, see what you guys think ;)

So you still have the runner right?...Time to make it a full on crawler, and the Dodge a tow rig.

:shake: Keep it low! I had a 97 1500 with a 5.2L and I stuffed 35's under there with only a coil spacer in the front to level the front out with the rear. A lil fender trimming and I was good. Sure is fun truck in the mud isnt it? I miss mine sometimes but not when it comes time to fill up the gas tank. I know that with a 7inch skyjacker and 3inch body lift you can easliy fit 39.5 tires. I'd imagine a little more fender trimming then you can fit 42's. But I dont recomend it cause that front axle is weak. Its just a slightly beefier full width version of the D35 found under Heeps. It wont hold much more than 35's so I'd save your money and beef up that axle. Good luck  Oh...can you squeel the 35's with the auto tranny? I liked the 5 speed, 35's sound funny  :burnout:

Yup, still got the runner, sits in the driveway for now. But at the moment im in mechanics school ;) Its either going to be a class project truck or ill just fix it when i get out. Tube it all and make it a fun truck ;) And yah, i need to get a coil spacer for my front, other than that they dont touch anywhere as it is. And right now it cost me 75$ to fill up the tank. I cant white smoke em, but they do squeel, in reverse especially. Fish tailin is real easy though with no weight in the back ;)

besides like rockshurtgood, said  the 1500 dodge axles are kinda wimpy,  does yours have the center disconnect thing on top of the front axle ??  if it does be careful  they can fill with water really easy,  like running thru sloppy mud or water

i'll keep my eye open for some 3/4 ton dodge axles for ya,  they should bolt right up

Sounds good glen, you should find something for him and he should run it and then do a write up of his build up.

I hope you have better luck with yours than I did with mine.I bought a 99 brand new.Came with the 5.2 and 5 spd.I had 33's  on it and here's a list of all the things that where replaced.Granted it was all under warranty, but still shouldn't have happened.
Tranny-it's on it's 3rd one-last one was replaced at 35k
intake gaskets
clutch
rear end
both front axles
and various pieces on the int.
all within the first 53k,the truck now has 73,150.On my last trip out wheeling, while hauling my runner the speedo quit working and some other stuff.

Mine had the center disconnect that glen is talking about. I hated that front axle with a passion. I see no reason why they decided to make that thing spin all the time. :tantrum: But other than the front axle being poop I had a great time with that truck and not much got in its way.

you rebuilt the motor 4 TIMES! are you fawking retarded or something :screwy:  :hammer:  :headscratch: . you couldnt make your truck work. you rebuilt the tranny twice? and now your going to mechanics school? this is getting better and better by the day :haha:   :hahaha:  :joke:  :talkingn:   :rofl2:

Yah some 3/4 tons would be nice, and a writeup would follow. i think i might just go with all suspension and get some 38's to put under it. I have replaced the tranny, the fuel pump and some other various little things but for the most part its been a pretty damn good truck. and i dont think i have the spinny quick disconnect or w/e you guys are talking about on the pumpkin. Just a normal ass axle. its sport model, dunno if that matters, but the reason it got rebuilt so much is cause of various things. First i bought a motor, blew 2 head gaskets while still under warrenty, which was good. Then blew 3rd one, i guess they didnt know what the flopp they were doin. Replaced myself, then the 4th time, the piston rings crystalized and i gave up, cause i cant bore at my house ;) the tranny went do to mudding and shitty napa clutches that my dad insisted i buy. but i dont know why mechanics school is a laugh, master diesel and gas tech with diagnostics and welding certifications, the money wont be bad. Explain please.

:drooling:  :yesnod: It is very beautiful. I love it, have you seen the Peterson ultimate adventure video for 2003? Bryan Richmonds dodge is just like that cept he used dynatrac front axle. He runs 39.5 Boggers and it is just an amazing truck.

no, but might have to look at it, that truck is awesome. I cant wait to get some boggers for my truck  :drooling:  :drooling: I think imma just do the suspension lift and go with some 38-39.5's and beef up both axles, to atleast a 60 or 3/4 ton.  :dunno:

By the time you found a 60 for the front and rebuilt it, like you should before it goes under, you might as well buy one brand new from an axle supplier like dynatrac or someone. You can easily find a 1 ton rear for it though. D60/D70/D80 I dunno bout those but I know the chyrsler 9 1/4 thats in there now is a c-clip axle. Poo Poo. If you PM me your address I will make you a copy of the "ultimate adventure" dvd its awsome. You will have to do some heavy fender trimming to get 39.5's in there. You could prolly get away with 38's. Oh and hell yes on the boggers! Those tires make me all warm inside

Dodges are pretty cool.  Bought my first one in July.  2005 1 ton long bed Cummins without the dually rear.  Tows my rigs flawlessly.

yea but thats a TOTALLY  different critter than his 1500

actually any full float rear,    60 would be the lightest,  but some dodge 3/4 have d70's with disc's   discs are good
