So, I am one of those losers that has a couple bungee cords holding down my battery.  Not really my fault, bought it that way.  The club I am goin wheelin with next weekend asks that you have your battery properly secured, anybody got a nice tie down setup?  Where did you get it and oh yeah, no welding possible before next weekend.  Help, I don't want them to tell me I can't go.

Thanks!!!  :-\\

All i did was go buy a new battery hold down bolt (the long one) and took a pc of 1" flat stock made a few slight bends and bolted it up .... Its been in thier 4 years and has never moved

I have nothing of the stock stuff left in there...just a loose battery tray...I don't know what to latch the long bolt too...I was just hoping there is a non-fab answer that I can take care of during the week.

Maybe buy one of the battery boxes from Autozone and bolt it in there.  Just takes a drill and some bolts.

I'm trying to keep it under the hood.

Uncle Jesse

At the rear of the battery spot should be a hoop for a "J" bolt to hook into, then the other end of the battery hold down bolts to a captured nut on the radiator core support.  A piece of flat steel with two holes in it would be best, but if you can't get to that this week then maybe you could do the same but get away with some plumbers tape or something of the like that already has holes in it.  Thinking about it, kragen's should have a universal hold down with J hooks as well.  Keep in mind that you still need the plastic battery tray installed to keep the battery from moving side to side, and then the hold down for the up down movement.  My brother had his battery slide into the A/C belt once.  Something to stop the side to side movement also keeps the battery from sliding and having the hold down short out on the positive battery post.

just get a battery box it will fit in the stock location

One of those universal hold-downs should work, you may have to drill a hole or slightly modify the top of the hold-down. On my Willys I had to drill a hole and then just bolted it through the inside fender.

I took a battery tray, one of the flatter ones with a 1/2" lip around it, cut it to size and bolted it thru the fenderwell.  It has loops on it for J-bolts.  A little tight with the washer res, but she don't move.

My entire battery tray had rusted out!  So, I had some scrap aluminum diamond plate laying around.  So, I got the measurements i needed and layed it out and cut some corners out so I can bend up the sides.  The sides are 2 inches tall, and I had a scrap piece bent to mount to the lower portion of the wheelwell behind the headlight, with a bolt to hold it in place and with the upper portion as well, but no spacer.  And a bolt to the side of the fender.  Another piece of scrap with some heavy threaded rod for the hold down!  The cheap hold downs are just too weak, and rust out real easy!  All I used tool wise was a grinder, hacksaw, drill, and a heady duty vice to do the bending.  Took me about 2 hours!  Hope this helps!
