Tube on my 82
« on: Aug 20, 2005, 12:34:33 PM »
Well one more addition to my 82 truck.
Here's the latest on the tube work being done to it.

Still have to get the sliders done and do some more finish welds add light tabs for the turn signals and sand and paint it.

Similar in design to the badlands bumper but way lighter and stronger since it is welded right to the frame. We can pretty much put any kind of winch we want on it we used 1/4" plate for the mount. We had the winch plate bent at Iriqouis a place that fabricates dumptruck and utility work beds.
My buddy Damien does some nice work though for just using a cheap harbour freight tubing bender.

Yup pretty much the same as washington state less rocks. You know lots of trees, dirt hills, mountians and mud.

Kinda sucks the tire deal is off now for the sale of my 35's.
The dented up fender kinda rolled down and gouged the :pokinit: out of my tire when we were offroading it today.
My buddy fixed the fender he welded it where the tab broke and trimmed off the excess where it was rubbing and rolled the seam on it.

I had my truck buryed past the frame in mud today and we got it out with 2 tugs.
I couldn't go anywhere because I had both diff's high centered and all 4 tires buried basically after you do that that's it you need a strap.

Man that thing is sick looking!  What kind of tube did you use for it that the cheap pipe bender was able to handle?  I am looking at fabricating something myself for the front of my '83 and yours is looking good enough to copy LOL.  I also like the idea of welding it to the frame.  Nice work.

We used standard DOM tubing it's what they make roll cages out of so it's strong enough.
Also we used a elcheapo Harbor Freight 12 top tubing bender basically all you gotta do is heat up the tubing with a torch in the area you before you bend it.

No problems with kinking or colapsing? Thats cool, just heat it up and bend away. Are the hook points the same thickness as your winch mount?
