I have a 83 with a 86 motor and trans. It just started grinding the gears recently. If I double clutch it shifts great. After searching the board I decided to change out the clutch master cylinger(it was leaking) and replace the slave cylinder. Both from which I order from Marlin. Its still  grinding and driving me crazy. The clutch feels good. Doesnt seem to be slipping, and feels like it grabs near the bottom like it should. I'm at a loss.   Any input would be awesome. Thanks
Chris

Sounds like you need a clutch. Does it feel like it's not disengaging til the very bottom? (if at all)

That's how I roll

i vote for synchros, what type of fluid are you using internally, 75-90 wt. is good

I had the same problem. I bled the slave cylinder and it fixed the problem.

dude your synchros are toast , do your best to match your engine speed to your tranny speed,  like if you rev to 3500 in 2nd, clutch ,shift to neutral ,let off the clutch real fast dropping your rpms then shift to 3rd

al a double clutch,   this will buy you some time but not much,  a L52HD  is in your future

Have you checked your blinker fluid latley :headscratch: ......

My 86 4-runner ginds when I am at a dead stop and try and shift into 1st or rev.  I have to push the clutch down and then slip my foot off the pedal to let it slam back into place, then I push it in and my gears dont grind.  Works great

which gears grind? if it is all of them then i would say it is a problem with the clutch its hard to believe all the syncros would go out at once. if it is just one gear then i would say syncros.

I adjusted the clutch pedel again, rebleed the system, ADDED SOME SYNTHIC blinker fluid. And still it grinds. Owell, I guess I will keep double clutching until the piggy bank is fat enough for a upgrade. Thanks

seriously, I vote for synchros too, you need a rebuild for sure, there's no other thing you can do if it's it.

:slap: those are so old.  When i used to work at Kragens, PepBoys and AutoZone and Napa and we would all call each other and see which workers we could fool....believe it or not some of them actually would have to ask or go look on the shelf.  Also, another goody was such as a water pump or radiator for a early VW Bug or something like that :hahaha: There were a few more but I can't remember em all :smack:

Aaahhhhh the good ol' days......NOT!!!!!

if you start it in neutral and try to put it in gear does it grind?does the truck try to creep forward if you are stoped and clutch is in and truck in gear?
