Toyota front axle question

Anyone ever had problem with the plate that sits inside of the inner front axle seal ?
What is it for? Stop oil for hitting the seal ,or to keep oil?
When I killed the Birfield,the inneraxle loosened the plate.

Ya, i've had one of those come loose before. It's a splash guard. Keeps gear oil from sloshing hard up against the seal.
Seems like it was kind of a squeezed in fit. I think I just figured out some way of pulling it, or pushing it out toward the knuckle till it wedged itself back in.
