How are you guys with first gen pickups puttin' in new stereos?  I got a cd player which is regular size but there is no way it is going to fit where the stock tape deck was unless I do some major :flamer:  and  :_order: on the main dash frame rails.  CD players are way wider than they were in the old days I guess, but I am really tired of singin to myself as I look at a gaping hole in the dash where a stereo is supposed to be.

I re-faced my dash with aluminum then cut the hole for my deck.

Hmmmm.......that works.  Alot of work though, plus didn't you still have to cut the metal dash supports?  I'm kinda leaning toward mounting the stereo in the glovebox.  Keep the dirt out.  Plus I can lock it.

not really much work and only opened up the hole that is already there for the stock deck. the aluminum is bolted over the original dash and the deck sleeve has the support strap holding it up too. stouter than before

and you wont get it in the glove compartemente' with busting a hole in the back of it, then you can use plumbers tape to try and secure it. booty

when i did my 79, i cut out the back and used wood to secure it to the sides; it was in the glovebox...worked great...
