Go with both, the electric will cool you when your crawling, and when it fails to start the good ol' oem will save you.

Do a search, there are a few posts on electric and flex fans.  I personally would just make sure the stock clutch is in good operation and call it.  I ran a flex a lite black magic for a while and it never cooled as well as a stock fan.  Never.  If you do want the extra insurance, go with rock surfer and install a thin pusher fan in front of the radiator.

Also key is a good mechanical temp gauge.  They are much more acurate than a stock gauge.  Accurate enough to watch the thermostat open and cycle.

Thinking about it now, I think some toyota trucks/4runners came with pusher style condensor fans from the factory.

Also keep in mind the extra load placed on the alternator when using an electric fan.  My F-A-L fan drew a max of 30 amps I believe.  Early trucks ran a 40 amp alt where as the later trucks ran a 60 amp alt.  Still not a lot left over either way.
