battery drain
« on: Jul 14, 2005, 07:47:28 AM »
Went out to crank my runner the other day and the battery was dead.It had been about a month since I had last cranked and I thought I mite have left something on so I jumped it off and let it run for about an hour.Went out two day's later, dead again.I started looking for the problem, but I can't seem to find it.I put a voltmeter between the cable and battery and started pulling fuses.I pulled ever fuse I could find and still the meter showed a draw. It's somewhere in the main harness I guess cause I took the wire from the battery to the underhood fusebox loose and it was gone.I pulled all the fuses in the underhood box along with the plug in's and it was still there. It's somewhere from the main fuse (80) to the inside.Any ideas.

Bad cell prolly? What kind of battery is it? The Exides are known for goin bad right after prorating starts.  Could have a constant that's draining it too... :headscratch:

I have been chasing the same type of drain, very intermittent, in my 84 4Runner...  I finally gave up and installed a battery cutoff switch about 9 months ago and turn it off when I park it...  haven't had the battery drain since! :rofl2:

Mine usually drains when I forget to turn my key all the way off.
Damn thing just pulls right out where ever you want it to. Even when running.

Well I figured it out.I got to thinking that this didn't start until I changed the alt.I had replaced it with one I got from a local guy who deals with yotas.Well I disconnected it and the draw on the battery was gone.So I guess I'm gonna have to replace it again.Hopefully he will give me another since this one wasn't any good, but I don't know,I have had it for 2 months.

yes,,an alt will do that,,sounds like there is a bad diode in the alt causing the current to flow..
Forgiveness is between them and god..
