Skidplates and gas tanks...help?

OK, I went to mock up my rear shocks and come to find out my beaten to hell gas tank skid is in the way.  I hit it with the 4-pounder for a while, but it isn't really doing the job...what are you doing for a skid there, or are you just removing it?  The damn thing is so misshapen.  Any help would be appreciated.   :hammerhead:

Personally, I've never had a problem.  I've seen other people build new skid plates that are less bulky.  You could just remove it, and pounded back into shape, then reinstall it.  Hopefully, that will solve your problem.

I may have a solution, I may reverse my mounts and change my whole shock mounting theory.

hey, same thing here, i went to napa, bought a cheap aluminum tool box, put the tank in it, and had extra room for tools ect. worked great, never any prob with the setup.

Aluminum toolbox is in the truck (or bed if you don't have a runner)?

i did this on a p/u, but, if you build a vent, you could put it in  a runner also

How will I be able to use my "camper"????  I like having my interior room.  I think the solution for now is the go with a slightly different shock setup, and later to see about a fuel cell.

1.  Remove skid from vehicle.
2.  Get the BBQ going with a large pile of coals.
3.  Dump coals into skid and stoke it till it's red hot.
4.  Dump coals and pound out / reshape to your liking. 
5.  Cool to the touch, paint and reinstall in vehicle.
