I screwed up
« on: Jun 30, 2005, 09:51:44 PM »
so i was putting in new plugs and wires in my 22r. when i got done, somehow i had switched the plug wires on two of the cylinders. when i turned it over, it turned over once and stopped. When i corrected the problem all i get is the "click" when i turn the key. so my question is what did i do and how do i fix it?

must use that trusty engineering logic...coil fried, doubt it.  Think, if you turned the engine over and it misfired because of lack of ignition in proper cylinders, what has actually happened in each cylinder.  You obviously have flooded a couple of cylinders, but that isn't you prob if you have cycled the engine a few times with your starter.  OK, I'm gonna give it up now, my head is coming up with conspiracy theories about unspent gas igniting as it is exhausted and it just hurts my head...

swapping the plug leads isn't gonna cause anything to flood unless you sit there and crank it for a good long while.  sounds like your starter is whacked.

i had a problem for a while where sometimes my engine would crank and stall, and i'd lose all power to my lights etc.  turns out that my battery wire wasn't making good contact and the vibration from the starter was shaking it loose

Ummm... Is your battery dead?

Do a voltage check to be sure it's OK.

then check all your connections and clean them as needed, Battery, starter etc. Be sure to check your ground wires as well, as they can be the culprit.

If that doesn't do it, pull the starter, and git it tested at any auto parts store (should be free).

I seriously doubt mis-wiring two cylinders is going to fry anything in the ignition, especially the coil. This would affect it's ability to start. Shouldn't just click and not turn over. That suggests battery or starter.

Good luck

yep chances are it's just a loose connection on the battery or starter.Getting the wire crossed wouldn't have anything to do with it not turning over.Other than that unless you dropped something down in the head when you had the plugs out there's no reason it would have anything to do with it not turning over.

I'd double check your connections, did you disconnect your battery like a good soldier when you were working on your truck? If you did then maybe you knocked a wire loose or didn't get it tight enough when you put it back on.
